Position Summary
The Nurse Manager is a registered professional nurse who participates as an active administrative member of the Nursing Management Team.
The Nurse Manager assumes responsibility for facilitating safe, efficient, and therapeutically effective care for patients in the unit, monitors and controls expense performance to ensure efficient operations.
The Nurse Manager promotes clinical initiatives, patient safety initiatives and quality improvement activities. The Nurse Manager acts as a resource and assists in problem solving and conflict resolution when necessary.
As part of the Nursing Management Team the Nurse Manager will evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and services and collaborate with the management team and physicians for improving patient outcomes.
The Nurse Manager will foster a professional environment and consistently demonstrates the ability to influence, motivate, and mange others while encouraging opportunities for employee development, teamwork and / or change in practice.
Delegates responsibly and effectively ensures reports and assignments are completed timely. The Nurse Manager demonstrates initiative, willingness to accept responsibility and a drive for excellence.
The Nurse Manager is a profession role model through behavior and actions and holds others accountable for the same.
The nurse manager may also work as a registered professional nurse in the capacity of house supervisor in addition to being a clinical nurse in a variety of areas within the hospital based upon knowledge, skills, and abilities.
As a Registered Nurse, the Nurse Manager maintains current competency with nursing skills and demonstrates knowledge regarding Standards of Care and Standards of Practice.
The Nurse Manager demonstrates judgment, discretion, diplomacy and a working knowledge of Hospital and Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and Policies and Procedures.
The Nurse Manager remains calm in crisis and emergency situations, and directs staff members effectively and appropriately.
The Nurse Manager maintains professional and effective working relationships with all members of the Health Care Team.
Duties (included but not limited to) :
Domains of nursing practice
Oversees coordination of patient flow
Teaching-Coaching Function
Participates on hospital committees and / or task forces
Effective Management of Rapidly Changing Situations
Monitoring and ensuring the Quality of Health Care Practices
Participates in Performance Improvement activities
Serves as a clinical resource for staff
Serves as a mentor for Charge nurses and other managers
Effectively communicates in all directions
Schedules and maintains nursing staff assignments for 24-hour coverage on a regular basis
Maintains appropriate staffing patterns with the guidelines for assigned program to ensure optimum patient care and understanding FTE requirements for program and hospital
Works effectively with the Program Director, Medical Director and C.N.O. to monitor and evaluate program standards and guidelines
Responsible for maintaining and upgrading knowledge in psychiatric nursing by engaging activities that enhances current knowledge
Assists personnel through performance improvement, coaching, corrective action and / or progressive discipline in an effective manner
Must demonstrate the technical and professional knowledge of a registered nurse
Must demonstrate communication and leadership skills
Must demonstrate teamwork and team building skills
Must comply with the provisions of the Nevada Nurse Practice Act for the practice of professional nursing particularly in area of delegation, and supervision
Must possess age-appropriate care competencies and be able to modify care based on patient’s age and developmental status, including specifically geriatric
Must demonstrate compliance with hospital policies / procedures and protocols including but not limited to use of the chain of command for both clinical matters and job or employee-related matters in the work environment
Must model customer service excellence and lead employees and professional colleagues in the pursuit of customer service excellence
Must demonstrate problem solving skills
Must role model ethical, safe, fiscally responsible practices
Must demonstrate skill in the management of resources, including human, supply, and equipment

EDUCATION :
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
BSN Required (or actively to pursue)
MSN Preferred
EXPERIENCE :
Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in a leadership role in an acute care hospital preferred
Demonstrated experience in leadership / management and establishing interpersonal relationships necessary to promote an effective working environment
CERTIFICATE / LICENSE :
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada
CPR / BLS
ACLS (required for critical care areas)
