recruiting an Internal Medicine Physician for our Chief of Medicine
position. This position is responsible for the growth and
development of the respective medical specialty sections. Works in
collaboration with chiefs of other services within the VASNHS,
Department of Defense, University of Nevada, Las Vegas and others
providing a continuum of medical specialty services for VASNHS.Learn more about this agencyResponsibilitiesThe Chief of Medicine is an Internal Medicine trained physician with
or without fellowship training who must have demonstrable
administrative and leadership skills in both the outpatient and
inpatient settings. Must be eligible for clinical privileges in the
Medicine Service. This position reports to the Deputy Chief of
Staff.
Duties of the position include and are not limited to:
Leadership acumen sufficient to provide direction for single and
complex programs in the delivery of services. Management experience
with strong administrative and interpersonal skills, including
effectiveness in labor-management relations
Demonstrated skills in providing clinical interface with academic
affiliates in matters of medical and nursing post-graduate training
as well as other key stakeholders.
Management experience regarding university generated education
programs and specialty training programs.
Demonstrated commitment to an interdisciplinary approach to care
delivery.
Documented ability to coordinate a broad continuum of programs in
multiple subspecialty care lines.
Demonstrates abilities to work well within an executive team.
Ability to use data to develop and implement improvements in
clinical care.
Leads, directs, plans, assists and collaborates to ensure that all
medical specialty consults for services are performed in a timely
manner
Responsible to contribute to the achievements of quality of care
standards, efficiency, process improvement, and patient
satisfaction
Write orders for diagnostic testing, prescribed medications, and
consultation to other services utilizing computer-keyboarding
techniques
Expected to practice in accordance with professional standards, core
values and with a commitment to service excellence serve as a
resource for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants who are
also delivering care and responds to all staff in the primary care
teams regarding patient concerns
Heavy focus will be on Service/Facility/Veterans Health
Administration metrics, gaps, and expectation for reaching access to
quality targets
The Supervisory Chief of Medicine Physician will ensure the highest
quality of care is offered to all of our Veteran patients At least

QualificationsTo qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements

Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed
when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in
accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting
from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools
approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in
which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or
surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United
States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by
the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core
specialty training program leading to eligibility for board
certification.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
