Working with Network Infrastructure Engineers, the network field technician will perform server maintenance and be our remote hands and eyes in our data centers. Maintenance consists of installing servers and switches in racks, un-racking servers and racking replacements, Ethernet and power cable wiring, fiber cable wiring, replacing disk drives and memory, and diagnosing simple hardware issues. ÂNo previous data center experience is necessary. You will be part of the team which is responsible for Akamais EdgePlatform consisting of over 150,000 servers in over 1,200 networks across over 90 countries. This platform handles a significant portion of the worlds Web traffic.
As a Field Technician you will be responsible for:
Installing servers and switches in racks, un-racking servers and racking replacements.
Ethernet and power cable wiring, fiber cable wiring.
Replacing disk drives and memory.
Diagnosing simple hardware issues.
About the Team
The Network Infrastructure organization is responsible for Akamais EdgePlatform - one of the worlds largest distributed platforms. This platform handles a significant portion of the worlds Internet traffic. Our Network Infrastructure Engineers build and maintain Akamais worldwide network. Youll work closely with field technicians, ISPs, customers, equipment vendors, and internal operations and engineering staff. You will start by helping to remotely diagnose hardware problems, facilitate server repairs, and manage Akamais hardware assets. You will work closely with other internal teams in Akamais Network Infrastructure group, translating requirements from network strategists, network architects, network engineers, capacity planners and program managers into specific deployment project plans, network designs and network packages. You will work with implementation managers, network engineers and network infrastructure engineers to ensure that these design plans and packages are implemented accurately and efficiently.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
Applicants must meet the following experience requirements: ¨ 1 year of relevant experience
Required Skills
1 year experience with basic computer diagnostic skills.
Ability to lift 50 -70 pounds and the ability to un-box and move equipment for several contiguous hours / days.
Must have reliable transportation. The job requires movement between locations that may not have access to public transportation.
Must have a laptop, cell phone, driver's license, and a basic set of hand tools.
Daytime (8 am - 5 pm, M-F) availability is preferred for training
Night and weekend work may also be required at some points
