Salary range â $14.00 - $16.00 Per Hour
Multiple full time, seasonal positions now available. The ideal applicant would be able to work a contract through September 2019.
Summary Description
As a staff member of the Tahoe Resource Conservation District (Tahoe RCD) and working under the direction of the Watercraft Inspection Program (WIP) manager, Inspectors will be responsible for inspecting watercraft for aquatic invasive species, watercraft decontamination services, documentation, reporting, on-site surveys, customer service and interaction with the general public and partners of the Tahoe RCD. Inspector positions will be for the Lake Tahoe Basin and Truckee region. Employment under these positions is seasonal and considered âat willâ dependent upon the needs of the Tahoe RCD and the availability of funding to support the positions.
The work of a Watercraft Inspector is physically and mentally demanding. Work is performed in the field at specified inspection/decontamination stations, which involves long hours in the elements. Inspections are performed around Lake Tahoe at approximately 6,226 feet. Summer temperatures can be over 80 degrees and snow can accumulate throughout the year. Operations will allow for exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, noise, heat, cold, rain, snow, and/or odors. Frequent interruptions to planned work activities will occur. Position will require flexible work hours when needed including holidays, weekends, evenings and will require manual labor.
Duties and Responsibilities
ï§ Perform detailed watercraft inspections and decontaminations
ï§ Identification of invasive aquatic organisms
ï§ Follow procedures vigilantly and effectively
ï§ Implement protocols to efficiently and effectively identify and mitigate threats to local aquatic ecosystems
ï§ Provide impeccable customer service and education about responsible boating practices
ï§ Assume responsibility for the care, maintenance, and security of District tools, property and equipment
ï§ Collect information from boater surveys and perform associated data entry
ï§ Maintain a professional presence and demeanor at all times
Desirable Qualifications
ï§ Two years or more of a college education; a passion for our natural resources and conservation actions
ï§ Experience with customer service and conflict resolution
ï§ Capable of applying analytical techniques to resolve issues while following protocols and procedures
ï§ Subject to: background check conducted and requested by the Tahoe RCD.
Abilities
ï§ Knowledge of watercraft and watercraft mechanics
ï§ Excellent communication skills with team members, supervision, management, and the public
ï§ Familiarity with Lake Tahoe and/or Truckee River Watershedâs ecological and social issues
ï§ Familiarity with and/or ability to quickly learn protocols, procedures, and maintenance techniques
ï§ Ability to manage high-intensity situations effectively
ï§ Ability to: work on a team and handle direction from supervisor; work under little or no supervision and prioritize daily tasks efficiently; work Holidays and weekends; exercise safe work practices at all times and under various conditions; lift heavy objects, and work for extended periods of time in various extreme weather conditions; exercise sound judgment; communicate effectively with the public; establish and maintain effective working relationships; possess a professional demeanor and presence.
ï§ A positive, can-do attitude is a must.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in the field at seasonally designated inspection sites. The position will require flexible work hours when needed (occasional overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays). Selected candidate may be required to work in the elements for extended periods of time.
Physical Requirements
The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Position may require manual labor. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs; ability to sit, walk and stand for intermittent periods of time and on a frequent basis; strength, dexterity, coordination; ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, and reach on a frequent basis; ability to communicate on a telephone, via email, and in person. Ability to properly prepare for long hours exposed to the elements.
