POSITION SUMMARY: The primary function of the position provides the information, support and encouragement parents need to help their child develop optimally during the crucial early years of life. This is done by providing education in the form of personal visits, group meetings, screenings and linkages to a network of resources for parent and children.

DUTIES:

Provide parent education through regular personal visits implementing chosen and/or selected curriculum.

Assess family needs and provide developmentally appropriate information, guidance and support to parents.

Represent the program at various community events supporting families and/or young children;

Coordinate services with other community programs offering services to parents and their young children.

Serve the number of families determined by program guidelines including successful completion of face-to-face visits and group meetings.

Complete all required documentation in a timely and comprehensive manner.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

College degree in early childhood education or a related field of study preferred.

Must be able to be P.A.T (parents and teachers) certified within 90 days of employment.

Supervised experience working with young children and their parents.

Alternatives to the above qualifications as the program finds appropriate and acceptable in accordance with funding guidelines.

Travel as needed for the position.

Successfully complete and maintain certification as a parent educator within a reasonable period of time as approved by the funding agency.

Possess effective communication skills and be comfortable relating to strangers.

Develop trusting relationships with parents as a model for parent-child relationships.

Use appropriate work related behavior, dress and attitude toward fellow professionals.

Establish and maintain appropriate professional relationship with families.

Adhere to required confidentiality practices.

Maintain a healthy balance between personal and professional responsibilities.

Manage use of time, resources and personal stress to effectively meet job requirements.

Able to lift 10lbs or more.

Possess a valid Nevada drivers license.

Pass pre-employment drug screen and background investigation.

Please note: Preference may be given to qualified Native American applicants under CFR, Subpart M, Part 273, Subpart D, Section 273.45, and/or 25 U.S.C. Section 5307. Also, applicant must pass and comply with the PL101.630-Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Protection Act, if applicable.
