The RF Engineer is responsible for the design and optimization of new and existing wireless facilities while meeting capacity needs. Seeks total Customer Satisfaction through meeting subscriber demand and improving call quality. Solicits feedback from Sales, Marketing, and Customer Care while working with Network Engineering, System Performance Engineers, and Network Operations to achieve this goal!
  • Budgeting: Support the capital budgeting process. Monitor and adjust budgets on RF sponsored projects.
  • Capacity: Forecast voice and data traffic. Design and monitor air interface capacity reviewing with Network Operations & System Performance. Build work orders or other document to allocate and implement capacity additions and changes to RF network working closely with SECSs. Act as the technical owner for implementation.
  • New Cell Design and Selection: Identify and justify sites, issues SARF's, assist with site selection and acquisition, engineer RF designs (coverage, capacity, frequency planning with neighboring markets), budget analysis, and coordinate and review site integration process. Work with other teams to develop and implement long range market plans. Design in-building coverage systems.
  • RF Performance Assessment: Work directly with (System) Performance Engineers to review drive test data and network operational measures to prioritize trouble areas.
  • Regulatory: Coordinate and analyze incoming/outgoing frequency/PN plans and extension agreements with neighboring carriers. Produce MPE and AM studies. Coordinate RF parameters for E-911. Coordinate RF data for FCC filings.
  • Modification Design: Design and implement system changes which improve or sustain quality performance of the network in a timely and effective fashion. Develop design modification options and recommend solutions. Function as the joint technical owner with System Performance for implementation and provide project support w/System Performance Engineering, Network Operations, and Network Engineering.
  • Projects: Participate in inter-departmental related projects defining or refining processes and procedures as well as companywide standards. Evaluate and drive new technologies into RF network.
  • Inter-Departmental Relations: Initiate relations between departments and maintain current lines of communication. Travel: Required as needed!

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field; or equivalent work or military experience. 3 to 5 years meaningful work experience. Excellent communication skills verbal and written. Proficiency with MapInfo and MS Office - Word, Excel, Access, Power Point. Valid driver's license is required.
Preferred qualifications
Experience in RF network design & optimization (Pilot Strength, Ec/Io, SINR, FER, and Mobile TX Power), knowledge of statistical and digital communications, antennas, propagation, link budgets, and the 4G/5G air interface standard and knowledge of operational measurements are helpful.

4G/5G packet data experience, Experience in new cell site acquisition (zoning hearings, site design, regulatory, integration), Experience with Propagation tool (Planet EV or Atoll), Capacity (traffic) planning experience, Site/Network optimization experience are all helpful.

SQL script and R programming knowledge, Network Engineering and/or Network Operations experience as it relates to RF Engineering is preferred
