JOB SUMMARY The purpose of the Appointment Central Representative position is to accurately and completely gather all necessary information to accurately retrieve orders, schedule an appointment, verify medical necessity and insurance benefits. This position requires that all demographic and insurance information along with other key data elements are accurately data entered in the system for each account or booking. This position requires significant interactions with patients, clinical staff as well as other department staff. This position requires the highest degree of confidentiality, and requires ability to work with initiative and decision-making skills. Reviews department schedules to ensure all required authorization/pre-certs are obtained prior to service for all scheduled outpatient procedures, as applicable. Reviews all accounts to verify insurance eligibility and verification.
Accurately schedules/reschedules and cancels appointment for all HOD patients as necessary. Reviews schedules, create a pre-registration record, accurately completing all key data elements within established department protocol.
Accurately screen orders for Medicare ABN to confirm medical necessity is met. Accurately reconciles physician orders with schedules and communicates to the physician office when appropriate.
Demonstrates a complete and comprehensive knowledge and use of departmental Scheduling, Pre-registration, Insurance Pre-Certification/Verification policies, procedures, updates, and guidelines.
Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health and the Catholic Health Ministry.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience:
One to three years customer service experience in a medical environment
Medical terminology
One to three years medical insurance experience
One to three years scheduling experience
Other Skills Required:
Strong verbal and decision-making skills
Keyboarding of 45-60 words per minute
Computer experience/exposure to Windows environment
Must be able to work independently within assigned guidelines
Requires ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Education
One year college or specialized post high school training or equivalent job experience required
Two years of college or specialized post high school training, preferred
