Do you have what it takes to change a child’s life?

The Main Idea at Camp Walden is a two week program that provides economically disadvantaged girls with a 10-day summer camp experience that builds self-confidence, promotes leadership skills, and creates a trusting and secure environment, all within the natural splendor of the Maine woods.

The Main Idea is looking for role models who have a positive outlook on life. Are you energetic and flexible and do you believe in the life-changing results that a magical camp experience can have for a child? A willingness to dole out smiles, hugs, high-fives, and encouragement is a must. Be prepared to have tons of fun in the process!

If you love working with children and horses and want to make a difference in our campers’ lives while being in the great outdoors, then The Main Idea at Camp Walden is the place for you!

Where is the Main Idea???

Camp rests along beautiful Walden Pond in a majestic area of towering pines in Denmark, Maine. Denmark is in the heart of the Sebago Lakes region and is only 30 minutes away from the White Mountains, home to the Presidential Mountain Range. We are approximately one hour west of Portland, 40 minutes east of North Conway and 20 minutes from the beautiful Saco River.

What about the riding program???

We teach English riding on 8-9 horses who have been working at the same location with other campers all summer. We have 2 outdoor rings and wooded trails, and our barn is small, but full of charm. Our horses are lucky enough have plenty of time to just be horses when they get turned out in our field every afternoon, and we do our best to make the experience as good for them as it is for the children who come to learn from them.
