New Jersey Arborists ISA Chapter (NJAISA) is an Arboricultural Industry and membership non-profit. The purpose is to advance and promote the art and science of professional arboriculture to New Jersey’s tree care industry and the general public through: Education, the support of research, the promotion of professional practice, professional practice, and the development of partnerships for the benefit of New Jersey’s environment. The NJAISA holds four major Chapter events per year, including a Two-day Conference, a Workday among members, a Climbing Championship, and a Golf Outing. The NJAISA is currently accepting applications for Assistant Director. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR (AD)

Part-Time Position (20 hours per week)

Reports to Executive Director (ED)

Summary - Duties and Responsibilities:

The Assistant Director (AD) will report to and work closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.

The AD is responsible for assisting in the everyday managing of the organization, including: 1.Maintain a viable organization that provides effective and efficient member services and is responsive to its members’ needs.

2. Provide professional education for arborists and urban foresters and support the development of a well-trained work force.

3. Improve the quality and professionalism of arboricultural practice.

4. Improve public awareness of the benefits of trees, their proper care, and the profession of arboriculture.

5. Support and disseminate arboricultural information and research.

6. Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with policy makers and allied organizations to promote professional arboriculture.

7. Assist and provide for the interaction of members and non-members with the management of the NJAISA’s four major events (two Saturdays required), a website, social media, regional meetings, webinars, and a newsletter.

8. Assist in the interaction of the NJAISA with the International Society of Arboriculture and its other Chapters.

Requirement:

To attend the four major Chapter events and attend in person or by conference call monthly evening meetings.

To maintain a level of professionalism and confidentiality.

To manage issues and opportunities relevant to the organization.

To plan and promote activities and special events.

To report to the ED with any issues, problems, updates, or questions.

To assist in the program functions of the organization:

Review program services on an ongoing basis and assist in the development of new and ongoing programs.

Identify and assist in the implementation of organizational best practices.

Create ongoing opportunities for Board members and members to provide feedback on program operations and review operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Provide input to the ED and the Board for strategic planning.

Strengthen relationship with other organizations to improve service delivery to members.

To assist the ED in providing support and guidance to the Board of Directors and serve as staff liaison on relevant board subcommittees.

To represent the organization at private and public functions.

To compile or prepare data on members, non-members, credential holders, other databases.

To perform other duties and participate in trainings, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Passion for mission of the New Jersey Arborists ISA Chapter and ability to articulate its philosophy, values, and practices to internal and external stakeholders.

Management experience with nonprofit organizations would be a plus

Excellent communications skills.

Team player with excellent people skills and the capacity to engage in critical thinking, analysis of programs and service delivery.

Adaptability to changes in the organization’s environment.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Windows.

Strong time management and organizational skills.

Must have the capability to travel when needed, work two Saturdays, and participate in a two day conference in Atlantic City.

Note: As a part-time position, the individual may work from a home office. Hours are flexible providing a wonderful opportunity for a stay-at-home individual or as a second job. Initially, the employment is by contract, but this position is an opportunity for the individual to get on-the-job training in the non-profit field and succeed the current ED in the future.
