Sickles Market Bakery is looking for an overnight baker. This is a full time position. Pay will be determined based on candidate's qualifications.
Department Responsibilities:
Receive loads and products while keeping an eye out for freshness and superior quality
Arrange cakes, pies, muffins, rolls and other baked goods
Apply ingredient tags and price tags to products.
Answer customers’ questions about food ingredients, cake designs and other aspects of the baked goods
Make certain that displays are filled with products and not low on merchandise or empty
Ensure displayed baked goods are fresh, and removes any that could have become stale after a period of time
Mix and bake ingredients according to recipes to produce breads, pastries and other baked goods
Measure flour, sugar, and other ingredients to prepare batters, doughs and fillings. Using scale and graduated containers
Dump ingredients into mixing-machine bowl or steam kettle to mix or cook ingredients according to specifications
Roll, cut, and shape dough to form sweet rolls, tarts, cookies and related products preparatory to baking
Observe color of products being baked and turns thermostat or other controls to adjust oven temperature
Apply glaze or other toppings to baked goods, using spatula or brush
May specialize in baking one type of product, such as breads, rolls, tarts, or cakes
Develop new recipes for cakes and other baking goods for management approval
Demonstrate the ability to be organized, to work independently and with the team to provide the highest quality shopping experience, while maintaining product assortment to drive sales.
Set and achieve the highest standards in retail execution focusing on maximizing sales and gross profit
Maintain the cleanliness of the department following the cleaning checklist and tasks assigned by the Bakery Department Manager and Store Management.
Offer daily feedback to the Bakery Department Manager and Store Management about the Bakery Department, successes and areas of opportunity.
Maintain proper product assortment, pricing, merchandising, and inventory control to achieve required margin.
Verify that customers who have communicated food allergies are not sold products that could be dangerous to their health
Ensure product availability, quality and freshness by proper rotation, stocking and replenishment of products to help maximize profitability and minimize shrink
Maintain proper temperature and humidity levels within coolers and/or freezers on a regular basis
Familiarize self with products in the department and recognize differences among similar products to better assist customers
General Responsibilities
Proactively engage customers, promote product and sales, build customer relationships, and provide G.R.E.A.T. customer service that encourage customer loyalty and add value to the Fairway brand
Work collaboratively with fellow employees and managers and recognize teamwork and diversity throughout the store to resolve conflicts respectfully and in a timely manner.
Maintain a strong time and attendance record to ensure the smooth flow of departmental operations
Maintain a clean and safe work environment by practicing high standards of food and human safety and sanitation techniques provided by Sickles Market work rules and policies and Health Department Regulations
Adhere to all department-related and company-related work rules and policies while upholding Sickles’ core values of integrity, respect and excellence
Perform miscellaneous roles assigned by management that would help the team on an as-needed basis
Attend mandatory trainings and recognize and seek opportunities for continuous learning and supply feedback to management to help improve operations. Attend all required training.
Skills and Qualifications
Candidates who apply for the Production Bakery Clerk position must possess the following skills:
Knowledge of bakery products
Good working knowledge of food quality, hygiene and sanitation, kitchen safety and food preparation
Strong Customer Service skills and ability to interact with other people and participate actively in department and staff meetings
Strong teamwork and diversity awareness and ability to recognize and welcome differences among people and resolve conflicts respectfully and in a timely manner
Organizational and time management skills and ability to prioritize requests and department activities
Problem-solving skills to effectively assist customers in a wide range of different transactions
Meet physical demands required for the position
Effective communication skills and ability to read, write and comprehend English
Availability to work weekends, holidays, and other prime times of the business.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Continuous interaction with customers and coworkers in a fast-paced work environment
Exposure to various food allergens throughout the store
Frequent motions such as standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, bending, lifting, and reaching
Lifting up to 30lbs. and pushing and pulling carts up to 100lbs.
Standing and walking for 4-6 hours at a time
