Job Description Summary

Under the direction of Worldwide Director, Continuous Improvement in Integrated Diagnostics Solutions (IDS) business is responsible for strategy and execution of the Product stream. Specifically, under the Cost to Win (CTW) initiative, there are three major streams, Materials, Architecture and Product Design. This position is responsible for the development of worldwide strategies and execution of implementation plans that involve changes to the product. While this role is not in R&D, it requires significant interaction with R&D leaders and engineers in identifying and driving the implementation of projects. Assists and supports business platform teams in achieving their strategic & financial objectives. Provides leadership during the implementation of key programs and coordinates programs and projects – most of these are worldwide initiatives and involve multiple manufacturing plants and region.

Works with Worldwide Director and the program leaders in CTW, Business (Platform) Teams, and Regional Management in assessing needs, developing plans, and developing worldwide strategies. Proactively communicates across these organizations while taking a leadership role in executing the strategy.

Assists in development of strategies for the CTW Product stream which are linked to the business strategy (including ASR) and formulates plans to meet these objectives. Provides analysis, evaluation of alternatives and makes recommendations to achieve business results. Leads the building of the CTW funnel of opportunities over ASR period to ensure that the program goals, including financial savings targets are met (expectation for funnel to deliver > 1% of COGS annually)

Job Overview:

Provides leadership and coordination with the IDS SM Sustaining Engineering leader to get resources. Meets with Procurement, Marketing, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Affairs, Quality and others to ensure plant programs are aligned with market needs and get required support to complete implementation. Ensures projects adopt and follow GPDS (Global Product Development System) guidelines.

Specifically, ensures that the opportunities being pursued meet the hurdle for:

(i) Technical feasibility

(ii) Financial viability and

(Iii) Market (customer) acceptability.

Key Responsibilities:

Assisting:

Required Qualifications:

Education

  • BS degree in engineering or equivalent

  • Advanced degree in engineering or MBA desired

Experience

  • 10 plus years work experience in a regulated industry.

  • 5 plus years work experience managing large programs and projects, preferably in a global setting.

  • Knowledge of design control as used in a regulated industry such as medical devices, diagnostics, pharmaceuticals or bio-tech.

  • Experienced in developing business cases and justifying to senior leadership.

  • Exceptional cross-functional communication skills.

  • Exceptional at dealing with ambiguity.

  • Ability to work with and influence decision makers across multiple (global) sites/regions/functions.

  • Strategic grasp of manufacturing best practices, state of the art technology within areas of specialty required, including the interaction of design, materials, process, and equipment.

  • Working knowledge of key manufacturing aspects such as molding, assembly, packaging, sterilization in a high volume setting desirable.

  • Knowledge of continuous improvement including Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma, especially Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) desirable.

  • International experience is desirable.

  • Collaborates with Marketing, R&D, Quality, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, Finance and other functions as well as the manufacturing plants to develop implementation plans for approved projects.

  • Serves as a champion to overcome barriers by addressing issues promptly.

  • Does not hesitate to challenge the status quo in search of opportunities that help the business provide cost effective solution to the customer.
