College of Education Early Childhood Demonstration Center Teacher 2, 12-Months PositionDescription: Rowan University is a Carnegie-ranked doctoral institution with high research activity with approximately 19,000 students. Its main campus is located in Glassboro, N.J., 20-miles southeast of Philadelphia, and it has a branch campus and medical school in Camden and a second medical school in nearby Stratford. The College of Education has over 2500 undergraduate and graduate students and is nationally accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).Under the direction of the Director of the Early Child Development Center (ECDC or “the Center”). The Teacher 2, plans, executes, and evaluates lessons and educational experiences of assigned pupils, class, or classes; performs these duties exercising independent judgment and with a comprehensive knowledge of department rules, regulations, and policies; does other related duties as required.Responsibilities: Maintains up-to-date lesson plans, cumulative pupil records, and evaluative data. Plans a balanced curriculum which aims to develop pupils physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. Prepares lessons that utilize a wide range of relevant textbooks, curriculum materials, audiovisual aids, and library resources. Participates in the development of an educational philosophy, curriculum, and courses of study. Provides individualized instruction and remedial techniques when the needs of the pupils dictate. Formally evaluates the educational progress and achievement of each pupil under his/her assignment on an annual basis or more frequently as needed. Prepares informal progress notes on each pupil monthly or more frequently as necessary in the continuous process of pupil evaluation. Contributes to the individual education plans and/or the education portion of individual habilitation plans for each pupil under his/her assignment and implements educational programming as prescribed for each pupil. Coordinates recommendations of the speech therapist, physical therapist, and other professional members of the interdisciplinary committee with the educational prescription for each pupil. May be required to engage in lifting clients when working in a setting that provides direct services to clients who are non-ambulant, or who are semi-ambulant and/or have severe physical disabilities. Maintains an attractive, orderly classroom that is well-ventilated, well-illuminated, and properly heated. Confers with the psychiatrist, psychologist, nurse, speech therapist, remedial reading teacher, occupational therapist, physical therapist, learning disability specialist, and other supportive personnel through individual conferences and multidisciplinary meetings to provide for the maximum development of each pupil. Follows academic policies and curriculum. Encourages, guides and assists student leaders. Helps students maximize their learning potential. Enforces discipline when necessary. Provides an atmosphere free of any bias in which students can achieve their maximum potential. Instructs and guides pupils to attain basic objectives of education programs. Observes pupils and formally and informally measures their growth. Utilizes teaching techniques based on individual differences of pupils. Differentiates pupils’ instruction according to their abilities. Participates in departmental meetings and professional development on a regular basis. Provides instruction and guidance to new teachers and para-professionals. Attends pertinent professional courses, conventions, seminars, and workshops to maintain the highest level of professional competence. Uses appropriate technology to communicate with peers, administration and students. Will be required to learn how to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.Requirements:Education:
Possession of a valid New Jersey Teacher's Certificate (Standard, Emergency or Provisional Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing or Certificate of Eligibility) or Permanent Endorsement, issued by the Board of Examiners of the New Jersey Department of Education, authorizing instruction in subject areas appropriate to the teaching assignment, as determined by the head of a school or district.
NOTE: Teacher 2 is utilized to teach differing student populations and different content areas; therefore, the specific teaching certificate may vary.
NOTE: A valid Orientation and Mobility Instructor Certificate, issued by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Specialists or the National Blindness Certification Board, may be substituted for the educational requirement listed above, within the Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
NOTE: Emergency Certification may be issued only in the fields of teacher of the blind and partially sighted and teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing. Provisional Certification is a temporary one-year certificate issued in disciplines other than those appropriate for Emergency Certification, as previously defined.

Ability to evaluate the educational progress and achievement of each pupil under his/her assignment. Ability to meet with students and parents/guardians for problem resolution. Ability to lift clients when working in a setting which provides direct services to clients who are non-ambulant, or who are semi-ambulant and/or have severe physical disabilities. Ability to learn how to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
