Job Description

CASES is one of New York City’s leading providers of alternative-to-incarceration (ATI) and behavioral health treatment programs for justice-involved individuals who have mental illness.CASES is implementing new program models within our citywideATIprogramsfor youth and young adultsand forpeople with mental illness and serious mental illness.ThePsychologist is a senior member of theATI CentralizedScreening andAssessmentTeam responsible for conductingevaluationsto identify eligible participants,preparing reports in a timely manner, and whennecessaryprovidingadvocacy to criminal justice stakeholders (e.g.,prosecutors and judges)related toassessmentfindingsand potential ATI recommendations.CASESseeksaPsychologist with knowledge of forensic mental health assessmentand treatment planning.This position involves spending time in eachCASEScourt office (the Bronx, Brooklyn,Manhattan,andQueens) to evaluatethecomplex and high risk cases referred to CASES for diversion.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct violence risk assessment utilizing theHCR-20 v3assessment and develop comprehensive evaluation reports presentingadefendant’s eligibility for ATI participation.
  • Formulate diagnoses and develop individualized ATI programplans
  • Provide consultation toclinical supervisors and intake coordinators,interpretingclinical. findingsandrecommendingtreatmentinterventions
  • Participate asamember. ofthecoreATIimplementationassessmentteam,includingworking with consultants to implement the Short Term Assessment of Risk and Treatability (START) adult and adolescent versionsto assess individuals for participation inCASES’ATI programs.
  • Administer, score, analyze, andinterpretpsychologicalscreenings and assessments.
  • Write formalevaluationreports, in compliance withATI assessmentrequirements and quality standards, includingcourt-ready reportsin advance ofscheduledcourt datesandinresponse toemergency or expedited situations.
  • Provide clinical consultation onproblematic casestoother clinical staff and provide review and feedbacktootherassessmentteam members
  • Supportclinicalintake staff working with individualswhoare incompetent,ensuring appropriate expedited evaluation and treatment planning.
  • Conduct screening and assessment of individuals referred from Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Centerwhohave received restoration of competency services following arrest and pretrial detention.
  • Participatein clinical supervision,case reviewmeetings, staff meetings,and in-service training programs.
  • Participate in relevant quality improvement,staff training, coaching,andplanning activities.
  • Supervise psychology interns and externs.
  • Provide culturally-competentservicesensuringthe consideration of the roleofethnic/racial,cultural, social, economic,andbehavioralfactors in the accessibility, availability,and delivery ofevaluation services.

Qualifications

  • PhD or PsyD with activeNY State license or the ability to obtain licensure within six months.
  • At least one year of post-training experience as a Forensic Psychologist in criminal justice setting.
  • Ability to work independently and strong advocacy skills.
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Preference for experience working with youth and young adultsand people with mental illness.
