Position Summary:Performs the duties of a Technician Pharmacy II as required. Enroll patients in IDP; maintain IDP database. Assist the pharmacy director with implemention and maintenance of systems and processes supporting specialized pharmacy functions. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.Accountability:
TECHNICIAN - Perform the duties of a Technician Pharmacy I as required
PATIENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM - Maintain and monitor patient assistance program to include procuring medication for UNM Hospitals indigent patients
PATIENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM - Research qualifications, drug availability for IDP; assist patients with form completion; submit requests to drug manufactures for patient assistance programs
RECORDS - Maintain logs to include narcotic inventory and other controlled substance records; maintain records on prescriptions dispensed
DATA - Enter various data into computer and forms, verify data, make corrections and ensure accuracy
REPORTS - May assist with preparation and maintenance of a variety of reports; analyze and interpret reports as required
MAINTENANCE - Assist with the implementation and maintenance of software and hardware associated with Pyxis, RxRobot, Optifill and other departmental systems
SPECIAL PROJECTS - Assist with planning and coordinating of special projects, events and the area quality improvement program; provide and coordinate staff training
MEETINGS - Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures and/or guidelines within assigned area
INPATIENT ASSIGNED AREA
RECORDS - Enter orders in PharmNet (COE) for P-CAP review
RECORDS - Obtain and enter patient height, weight and allergy into pharmacy system patient profiles
RECORDS - Generate an IV to PO report for P-CAP review and place the conversion notice in patient medical record and PowerChart
RECORDS - Generate 12 hour LVP report and reconcile the report with patient's current LVP orders and rate to aviod missing doses and eleminate waste
OUTPATIENT ASSIGNED AREA
REFILLS - Receive patient prescription refill requests; fax or call in completed prescription refills; document prescription refill requests for provider approval
LIAISON - Coordinate all medication related issues for patients, providers ans clinic staff
PRIOR AUTHORIZATION - Obtain and document prior authorization from patient health plan before medication administration
PROCEDURES - Assume responsibility for securing and documenting controlled substance prescription refills
PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Graduate from an accredited Pharmacy Tech program
Complete Hospital Pharm Tech tng or equivalent
Experience Requirements:
1 year directly related experience
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
Certified Pharmacy Technician in State of New Mexico or obtain within 60 days of date of position
Experience Requirements - Preferred:
Bilingual English/Spanish
Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo
Physical Demands Requirements:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
Testing Requirements:
Tuberculin Skin Test required annually

Sig Hazard: Chemicals, bio hazardous materials requiring extensive safety precautions and may require protective equipment
