Provides support for, and is involved in, the conception, design and development of wholesale strategy and products designed to assist the real-time and day ahead traders trading activities. Working with BTS, support the upkeep of all software applications and systems that are used in the wholesale
marketing group. Assist in the development of strategy and policy recommendations to be applied to various markets in the western US such as those created to better integrate renewable and storage assets such as the Western EIM market. Participate in stakeholder processes or other initiatives in organized markets (CAISO) and NERC regions (WECC) which relate to and impact PNMs efforts to reliably serve load and maximize savings and profits for its customersESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Gathers and assimilates wholesale electricity market intelligence from a wide array of sources
Tracks and analyzes correlation between various energy markets (CAISO DALMP, HALMP, EIM/Palo Verde Hub /NYMEX, etc.) and other energy related markets in which PNM participates. Examples include natural gas and newly formed markets that may evolve or emerge from changes in the power industry to assist with integrating renewables and storage assets (Solar markets, GHG markets, Extended day ahead markets)
Analyzes PNMs load and renewable forecast trends, market price trends, weather patterns, PNM owned and regional generation outages, and their impact on markets
Researches the Open Access Same-Time Information System to identify and inform the group on modifications and changes to OATT service impacting PNM's delivery of energy from various Transmission providers
Supports the day ahead and real-time traders by maintaining and updating bid and offer strategies for use in the various markets PNM transacts in (Bilateral, DALMP, HALMP, EIM, EDAM, Forward Hedging)
Assists with the development of Request for Proposals (RFP) and coordinates RFP response tracking, follow-up, and deal confirmation processing
Supports the Wholesale Power Marketing team by maintaining the departments Optimization tool(s) to provide studies and bid scenarios to real-time and day ahead to facilitate bidding strategies and help maximize cost savings and profits
Develops and coordinates the implementation of various marketing tools, programs, and reports to support real-time and day ahead hedging efforts and efficiencies in serving load and scheduling the renewable portfolio
Performs after-the-fact analysis of completed transactions and results from EIM related bids to assess if bid strategies are profitable and assess unit performance in EIM and make necessary adjustments to systems in order to improve future performance
Creates, coordinates and distributes various reports to the department and upper management on the past results of participating in EIM and other markets. Prepares presentation packages on EIM and other emerging markets (EDAM, Storage, GHG)
Participates in stakeholder processes or other initiatives in CAISO, WECC and other organizations, which relate to or impact PNM's business and performance in markets such as EIM to include analyzing related proposals, comments, white papers or position statements produced through stakeholder processes
Coordinates internal dissemination of information to affected business units and facilitate the development of coordinated company positions on CAISO and EIM-related issues
Collaborate with the EIM EESC Entity (Power Operations) to align with changes needed to the EIM/CAISO requirements and processes
Interface and collaborate with the Energy Analysis group as it relates to EIM settlements and billing
Responsible for employee development and performance management skills
COMPETENCIES: Experience in economic analysis and power system operations and knowledge of PNM's system
In-depth knowledge of the interconnected bulk power generation and transmission network and the operational aspects that affect wholesale markets, and of competitive markets such as CAISO markets
Ability and flexibility to successfully perform in competitive environments while working both independently and in a team environment
Thorough understanding of the regulatory process and issues affecting wholesale markets at the State and Federal levels
Ability to work with others within the department and external departments, train assigned staff including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
Ability to analyze complex systems, events, and data and make targeted improvements
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
Adapt creative problem-solving skills to difficult challenges
QUALIFICATIONSMINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with three to five years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, high understanding of fundamentals of statistics
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
COMPUTER SKILLS: Extensive working knowledge of database, spreadsheet and word processing software and preferred experience using PI or PCI applications
ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit up to 2/3 of the time and use of fine dexterity.
Occasional standing and walking.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
