POSITION PURPOSE

Consistently develop and refine the Life Skills Academy (LSA) program to provide continuing education and support to youth within New Day and the broader Albuquerque Community. Cultivate partnership with other life skill providers to develop a system of collaboration and increased capacity in order to better support young people. Be a leader within the agency and the community in highlighting the need and impact and importance of life skills development for young people.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following list of duties or tasks is not intended to be complete but to represent some of the tasks required under each of the major responsibilities.

Work directly with Community Connections Director to support and develop Life Skills Academy staff and promote and expand LSA programming within New Day and the broader community.

Act as a liaison for the Life Skills Academy in the community with other programs that serve young people, probation officers, social workers, mental health professionals, businesses, health care providers, etc.

Embody a positive youth development and trauma informed approach to working with young people

and utilize the Nurtured Heart Approach to build Inner Wealth and create greater opportunities for

success for young people.

Work as a team with other staff to ensure consistency, clarity and safety for young people

Support life skills classes, courses and development across the entire agency, within each department.

Supervision and Program Development

Attend required trainings and data implementation meetings with Bernalillo County and other providers (as needed) to ensure contract requirements are being fulfilled.

Ensure all data that is required for all LSA programs and New Day is collected in a timely manner and documented in the appropriate data bases, spreadsheets, and reporting documents.

Support integration with Life Skills coaches, Drop-in Center staff, and other ND programs.

Provide supervision and support to all Life Skills Coaches related to implementing the ACES model and other key foundational components of Life Skills Coaching

Provide supervision and support to LSA Program Coordinator to fulfill all key components of general LSA programming to include development of the community instructor community, creating diverse class offerings, recruitment of youth, data collection and reporting, marketing and outreach, and incorporation of LSA programming across programs within the organization.

Provide supervision and support to Career Exploration Guide to fulfill all key components of the First Job’s program to include development of curriculum and coordination of the internship program, recruitment of youth, data collection and reporting, marketing and outreach, and all other financial requirements therein.

EDUCATION & RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE

Education Level/ Years of Related Work Experience:

(minimum & preferred educational requirements necessary to perform this job successfully)

Bachelor’s Degree (or the ability to obtain Bachelor’s Degree within 6 months) and 3-5 years of experience, or an Associate’s Degree/some college with 4-6 years of experience. Required relevant experience: working with system involved youth; providing and developing training for diverse audiences; experience with community coordination and collaboration. Required skills: knowledge and understanding of providing individual coaching; ability to multitask; excellent organizational and interpersonal competencies; self-driven; works well in and outside of teams; knowledge of principles of youth-centered leadership and positive youth development; able to build, develop and engage community partners; work across systems; and work with culturally diverse youth populations. Degree in either Social Work, Sociology, Education or a related field preferred.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of community resources and experienced in providing referral services clients

Strong leadership, mentoring and coaching skills

Ability to identify quality support strategies

Excellent oral communication skills reflecting solid customer service both in-person and via the telephone

Ability to relate well in cross-cultural environments

Ability to use time effectively

Ability to focus on details

Ability to adapt to shifting priorities

Ability to position and promote opportunities

Proficiency in technical areas such as Microsoft Office; including Word, Outlook, Access and Excel.

Bilingual, English and Spanish

Ability and willingness to travel locally and regionally to meet agency needs

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Must be able to pass comprehensive criminal, sexual offender, MVD background checks.

Must have car, valid driver’s license, and maintain state required automobile insurance minimums.

Physical Requirements:

The position requires the ability to lift 40 pounds unassisted, 45 and above pounds with assistance.
