Our perfect location combines the active outdoor lifestyle with the arts & smarts of a small college town.The University of Maine Farmington is seeking applicants for the position of Facilities Maintenance Worker, Career Level 1 -Custodial in Facilities Management.The position reports to the Assistant Director of Facilities for Environmental Services and Grounds.The facilities maintenance worker performs tasks related to custodial care and cleaning of university facilities; securing campus buildings; reporting needed repairs and equipment failures; floor maintenance; room set-ups; moving furniture and equipment; snow removal and other manual labor. Work is performed according to defined policies, procedures and standards under both written and verbal instructions. Makes decisions that affect the manner and speed in which the elements of an operation are performed.The employee will work with materials and chemicals associated with cleaning. Department employees may apply to same classification positions during their probationary period. This position is designated as an essential position requiring the individual to be able to work during periods of inclement weather and/or campus emergencies. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions

Ability to work occasional overtime, which may include occasional nights and weekends

Ability to work independently

Ability to lift, carry and move 50 pounds and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects

Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions

Ability to do manual cleaning and perform manual labor including snow shoveling

This can be a physically demanding position and typically requires: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical assessment is required.
