Position Summary: Develops, maintains, and improves the cost accounting structure within the decision support system to enable accurate costing of patient charge codes for multiple entities across the system. Develops revenue models to estimate net revenues by payor for patients and produces and analyzes profit and loss information. Educates clinical managers on cost accounting theory so they can provide necessary information to build costs for patient services. Develops reports and provides analyses of business and financial operations to leaders across HHC. Position Responsibilities: 1. Modifies cost accounting structure within decision software to reflect changes in hospital payroll, general ledger, and business operations and improve accuracy of unit costs. 2. Processes financial cost accounting database, audits financial database including reconciliation with patient database, develops and maintains financial tools and tables in costs accounting system, undertakes fiscal year conversion activities 3. Loads and audits patient database files including processing of rejects. Determines solutions to data issues as needed. 4. Implements cost module for system facilities. Assists with implementation of patient module as needed. 5. Educates hospital clinical managers on standards building theory and expense reclassification logistics to enable the development and maintenance of Relative Value Units for patient activity codes and associated redirecting of expenses and charge codes as necessary. 6. Develops net revenue models to estimate net revenue by payor for hospital and professional services patients. 7. Develops profit and loss statements by service line and analyzes profit and loss information for senior leaders across HHC. 8. Maintains, develops and enhances thorough understanding of decision support software (both cost module and patient module) so can troubleshoot issues, actively participates in testing of software upgrades, and expands and improves the software capabilities. 9. Acts as internal consultant to clinical departments to assist in analysis of costs in their areas, development of business proposals, and changes in profit and loss for patients and service lines. 10. Helps department and service line leaders to understand their financial issues from both a cost and revenue perspective and develops analyses that lead to actionable insights. 11. Develops audit reports and routines to ensure integrity of cost database. As problems are uncovered, identifies and implements solutions to improve or fix data. 12. Adheres to PHI standards in access to and distribution of confidential patient information. 13. Maintains thorough understanding of healthcare and hospital terminology and industry trends and best practices for cost accounting and financial analysis of clinical departments and service lines Bachelors Degree required, Masters Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or Healthcare Admin or related field preferred. Minimum 7-10 years experience in hospital or healthcare setting preferably using a decision support system. Excellent interpersonal skills including written communication. Highly analytical with ability to translate complex information into simpler terms and concepts. Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Highly effective time management and organizational skills. Must be committed to high performance and superb customer service. Strong computer skills and knowledge. Highly proficient in Excel and Access. SQL reporting skills is desirable. Must be self-motivated and self-directed. Team player with ability to collaborate with others.
