Come join a new team of staff that will be working to organize, digitize, and catalog one of the most mission-critical physical collections at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). You will be on a new team, deployed to the Weapons Production Directorate, working for the Weapons Research Services- Secure Information Services Group. The information you organize and catalog will have an immediate impact to the Laboratory’s mission.You will be working in coordination with one of the largest libraries in the Federal Government, the National Security Research Center (NSRC). The NSRC is LANL’s classified library, containing tens of millions of documents, films, books, and other archival material related to the development, testing and production of nuclear weapons, dating back to the first days of the Manhattan Project. The NSRC's collections contain a breadth of classified technical information related to physics, chemistry, engineering, material science, intelligence, and national security. We are looking for an individual with a background in handling, storage, transmission, and disposition of electronic and hard copy unclassified and/or classified documents/materials; managing special records or archive collections and performs technical information research and retrieval from physical collections to meet the needs of Laboratory staff.As an Information Research Specialist 2, you will digitize materials, populate metadata/ indexing information that will be used to develop a robust catalog, provide quality control for the digitized materials, and upload digitized material and associated catalog information into the Online Vault database. Complete minor maintenance and repairs of scanning equipment, set up scanning equipment for various media types and sizes and perform any finishing task associated with media to preserve original master copies. Address customer research requests for locating digitized technical information. Assure proper storage and handling of classified information. Assist in the development and documentation of digitization workflows of archived media. Act as vault-type room custodian and classified matter custodian.What You NeedMinimum Job Requirements:Technical KnowledgeFor this role, you will need experience in populating indices for small to moderate size collections. As well as experience in populating metadata for archival materials, performing quality control reviews of digitized material. In addition, you must be a demonstrated self-starter with the ability to work independently without direct supervision with strong attention to detail.Customer RelationsYou will be required to have experience in customer-focused communication and relations and the ability to work in a team environment.Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.Desired Qualifications:Digitization FamiliarityIt would be great if you had experience in operating at least one professional digitizing equipment for either paper, microfilm, microfiche, video, or other media.LANL FamiliarityIt would be a plus if you have an understanding of the weapons program within LANL, along with experience working with classified material in a classified environment.Technical KnowledgeDemonstrated experience working in a major archival organization, such as the National Archives and Records Administration.

Experience in Classified Matter Protection and Control; and Vault Access training.

Experience in using LANL’s classified network systems, uploading, cataloging, and retrieving documents.

Document custodian background and experience and/or records management, document control background and experience.
