What You Will DoWe want you to be a part of a unique prototype/production manufacturing organization that is managed by the Prototype Fabrication (PF) Division. PF Manufacturing (PF-MFG) is seeking two (2) motivated individuals who are interested in serving as Technical Work Managers with First Line Manager (FLM) responsibilities for the daily operations of the PF-MFG machine shops. As a Technical Work Manager, you will report to the PF-MFG Group Leader and will work as an integral member of the group management team with oversight responsibility for a subset of the group’s ten (10) machine shops.Key responsibilities include:

Working with the Group Leader to establish priorities and help manage the daily operations within the PF-MFG machine shops.

Represent group management to define and prioritize work and assist with load leveling between the machine shops; work with the PF Liaison’s office to assist identifying machine tools, personnel, and durations for programmatic work.

Oversee all work performed in the various machine shops and verify that customer and QA requirements are met.

Perform recharge vouchering and provide summary reports to the Group Leader for PF-MFG recharge revenue and cost collection performance on a weekly basis.

Review, approve, and track materials and supplies purchase requests and expenditures.

Address personnel issues, and participate with the group management team in the development and implementation of performance plans for group personnel.

What You NeedMinimum Job Requirements:Management: Demonstrated knowledge and proven ability to successfully manage an operational envelope in a prototype machining environment with employees working at multiple facilities simultaneously with an emphasis on workflow control, planning, and recharge revenue collection. Along with this, you must demonstrate a history of employee development, performance management, team building, goal setting, problem solving, and conflict resolution. Ability to load level between multiple facilities.Manufacturing: Demonstrated working knowledge of the administrative and supervisory functions associated with machine shop operations, such as maintaining a safe and compliant work environment to include waste handling, chemical inventories, raw material procurement, recharge revenue collection. Working knowledge of machining and experience with multiple platforms. You must also be able to interpret complex drawings, sketches, and/or verbal instructions to effectively facilitate the most efficient method(s) for fabrication of parts and assemblies with a high degree of difficulty and tight tolerances, typically +/- .0005 Ability to work with maintenance personnel to prioritize machine tool repairs.Continuous Improvement: Demonstrated advanced experience and knowledge in regulatory requirements as it relates to a machine shop for such items as environmental compliance, machine guarding, etc. as well as safe work execution within a prototype machining environment for multiple operations and facilities simultaneously. Experience in procurement and installation of machine tools. Evaluation and improvement in machine shop operations and upgrading machine tools to improve efficiency and productivity.Safety: Awareness and experience in working within established safety and quality controls for machine shop operations, addressing/mitigating potential risk, developing and overseeing work processes and procedures to ensure a safe and robust operational posture.Communication: You must have a history of successfully interacting with personnel at all levels and across organizational boundaries by excellence in verbal/written communication and teaming.Education: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience in engineering technical support or engineering technology; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.Desired Qualifications:Accredited Journeyman Machinist qualification with 15 years of experience OR program qualified equivalency consisting of 20 years of diverse machining experience, AND a minimum of 8 years’ experience supervising machine shop operations.Information Systems: Demonstrated knowledge and professional level experience with manufacturing management information systems for scheduling of work and the associated cost collection of fabrication requests such as JobBOSS.Computer Skills: Experience with CAD/CAM software, in particular SolidWorks/CAMWorks, and CREO.
