Duties:
This position will teach YouthBuild participants (ages 16 through 24) basic reading, math and writing skills as well as GED preparation using a variety of instruction methods and resources. The instructor will also proactively assist participants in occupational and/or post-secondary research, opportunities and placement, and provide supportive guidance and encourage the development of academic, life management and personal growth skills.
Requirements:
Bachelors degree in the education or a related field with ability to teach reading, writing, and middle school level math.
New Mexico Teacher Certification desirable.
Minimum of two years experience teaching basic skills and GED (General Education Development) preparation to high school students, young adults, or adults, with the ability to teach individuals with a wide variety of skill levels and learning styles.
Familiarity with TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) and GED standardized assessments.
Excellent public speaking, listening, writing, and computer skills to include Microsoft Office, Internet, and email.
Proficiency in computer operation for computer based instruction and a positive attitude about the use of technology
Passion for working with young people of diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds to reorient their lives, develop leadership skills, and make a difference in their community.
Ability to team-teach and work as part of a team.
Ability to pass both a Motor Vehicle Record and school fingerprint background check.
