VOLUNTEER PROGRAM COORDINATOR (Santa Fe)

Vacancy expired!

OUR MISSION: Coming Home Connection trains, places and supports volunteer and professional caregivers in homes and other settings where help is needed, to assist clients and their families through sickness, old age and the end-of-life.

THE VISION: Caring for a child with a life threatening illness can be one of the greatest challenges in life. The practicalities of maintaining the right environment and providing hands-on care, the mental and emotional stress, and the need to keep normal life going, particularly when there are other children in the home puts huge pressures on parents. We want to match families with volunteers that they feel safe and confident enough with, to leave them with the care of their precious child, so they can take a break to keep themselves physically and emotionally healthy.

THE PROJECT

Design the syllabus for a 3 to 5-weekend or evening training program covering practical care skills, soft skills needed as a volunteer, and emotional and mental self-care and resiliency.

Recruit 8-12 volunteers from our own caregivers, the Santa Fe Community Nursing students, and the wider community.

Contract expert trainers and deliver one program.

Liaise with the childrens hospitals in Albuquerque, and other areas serving Santa Fe, to identify qualifying families.

Place, supervise and provide ongoing support for volunteers.

This is a part-time 10-month pilot program. The fee is $10,000 (plus GRT), payable either monthly or quarterly on completion of agreed targets. There is a budget for program and volunteer expenses.

THE PERSON: If you are reading this job advert and are excited by the idea of creating a program to care for sick children and to support their families, thats a really good start. If you are the kind of person who likes to take a project from start to finish, and who is capable of setting and working towards realistic goals with limited supervision, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. Ideally we would prefer someone with either nursing or care experience working with very sick children, but thats not essential. What is essential is experience managing teams of people, preferably volunteers, and running training and support programs.

You need to be open to learning and working within our mission and volunteer ethos. You will work directly with the Executive Director, and be supported by our office infrastructure and resources, but you will have a lot freedom to make and shape this project.
