Summary Description:

The Product Manager is primarily responsible for the development and maintenance of the processes around informing and executing our product strategy, as well as maintaining the technical documentation and training materials from vendors, keeping the BayWa sales team and installer partners updated on product changes and new releases, and providing accurate information and reporting on products that contributes to the profitability and success of BayWa.

Key Accountabilities:

1. Product Management “ 50%

Serve as an in-house product expert. Accountable for implementing accurate, efficient, and timely product management processes and information to effectively meet sales/customer needs and support profitability.

2. Training and Technical Support “ 30%

Accountable for continuously and repeatedly facilitating and leading internal product training with emphasis on ensuring accurate, timely and efficient communication with all stakeholders.

3. Reporting “ 20%

Accountable for consistently generating accurate product roadmaps, benchmarking, and distributing vendor technical notifications, with emphasis on proactive communication and partnership with all stakeholders.

Key accountability percentages may change based on the needs of the business.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Product Management

1. Develop and maintain technical expertise across all product lines.

2. Stay up to date on products in marketing and coming to market, from our suppliers and other leading suppliers, able to identify product trends, keep current with relevant code requirements.

3. Provide technical review of new products and vendors being considered, and provide recommendations and due diligence research to CCO and VP of Operations

4. Develop deep relationships with product managers and technical staff from our vendor partners to stay current on new features or technical issues with products. Maintain current internal and client facing product roadmap

5. Communicate product strategy effectively to sales and purchasing teams; including SKU management, item strategy, and vendor status. Utilize purchasing team as needed for support on quick action items

6. Coordinate execution of product playbook plays for Evaluation, Roll Out, Retirement & Price Change

7. Work closely with our internal buyers on the planning of purchases to help make more strategic decisions about stocking levels, inventory levels based on product dependencies, etc. particularly of new and EOL

8. Work with E-Commerce Director to develop and implement processes for creating and maintaining webstore item descriptions and current technical documentation

9. Suggest product packages and coordinated items for specific solutions to provide a full system offering from BayWa r.e., within current stocking strategy guidelines

Training and Technical Support

1. Arrange manufacturer/product training for employees, particularly purchasing and sales, to ensure the knowledge needed to effectively buy, inventory and sell products exists within the company.

2. Coordinate with marketing and manufacturers to assist in translating product information to customers to support external events and trainings, including webinars, and other outbound marketing activities.

3. Accompany sales reps on key account visits or calls as appropriate.

4. Create or support development of sales tools relating to products (e.g. product fight card or comparison charts)

5. Keep technical documentation up to date in NetSuite/Webstore for both internal and external audiences.

Reporting

1. Build and maintain vendor product roadmap for all important vendors and keep sales/ops teams apprised of vendor product updates

2. Benchmark the competition (against other national distributors)

3. Benchmark products in the industry

Skills & Abilities:

Self-starter with drive to make things happen; excellent at project management and prioritization

Demonstrated success in building relationships at all levels of an organization internally and externally

Strategic thinker; capable of translating business objectives into tactical action plans and milestones

Comfort with the mechanical, electrical and structural aspects of solar installations, and with the rapid pace of technological change in the industry

Superior written, communication and presentation skills; ability to present technical information clearly and concisely

Requirements:

Bachelors Degree or acceptable equivalent or years of experience to substitute for degree

Must be legally eligible to work in the US

Ability to travel on an occasional basis, the ability to rent a vehicle and fly nationally

Knowledge of Solar Photovoltaic Equipment and system design
