The successful candidate could be in New York, Newark or Lawrenceville, NJ, Philadelphia, or Baltimore.We are looking for an experienced Electrical Power Design Manager to Lead our Northeast Transit and Rail Traction Power Team in the design of transit and rail infrastructure traction power systems. Come join us and help shape the future!Your ImpactDevelop client relationships within the transit & rail systems market to develop strategies for positioning WSP for transit & rail systems-related opportunities.

Assure that engineering services are commensurate with professional standards, client requirements, and corporate objectives.

Recruiting and hiring staff to meet project needs.

Interact with in-house design engineers as well as engineers from other companies to develop proposals.

Interact with design engineers to manage the scope, schedule, and budget of projects.

Interact with transit agency to verify needs are being met during design and construction phases of projects.

Develop and submit proposal scope and fee estimates for engineering design solutions to meet the transit agency needs.

Work with marketing teams to develop technical proposals and presentations to clients.

Excellent communication skills (presenting and writing).

Organized, self-starter with a strong entrepreneurial spirit.

Who You AreRequired QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.

12+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering, although experience in the transit and rail industry is preferred, we are also interested in applicants with experience managing design projects involving medium or high voltage substations and transmission and/or distribution systems with utilities or related industries.

Advanced proficiency with transit and rail or a similar power engineering field including engineering principles, practices, process, and design/build, and project work-related issues.

Strong working knowledge of FRA, FTA, CPUC, AREMA, and other rail or similar industry regulatory standards and procedures, codes, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements, and the business impact upon the organization.

Advanced proficiency with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.

Works independently and provides guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.

Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with employees effectively, persuasively, and tactfully at all levels of the organization.

Tactical lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment.

Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, regulators, and company-wide staff, including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exits.

Knowledgeable in office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, and similar software packages), technology, spreadsheets, and tools.

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.

Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred QualificationsMaster’s Degree in Engineering.

Traction power experience

Professional Engineering License.
