Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00 A.M. - 1:00P.M.
Every other Saturday/Sunday
Saturday 8:00 A.M. - Noon; return at 6:00 P.M. to walk and feed boarding patients
Sunday 8:00 A.M. until all patients are cared for; return at 6:00 P.M. to walk and feed boarding patients and place garbage and recycling at curb
The hospital is closed for holidays 6 days per year, but these are generally times when we have many boarding patients. You will be expected to work a minimum of 3 of these holidays - start at 8:00 A.M. and work until all patients are cared for; return at 6:00 P.M. to walk and feed boarding patients.
No experience in the veterinary field is required, but would be considered favorably. We will teach all skills needed to perform this job.
This is a part-time position CLEANING. There is minimal contact with the patients compared to the amount of time spent cleaning. However, you must be able to work with and handle dogs, cats, birds, and some exotic pets as they must be walked, moved, and occasionally restrained for treatment. You must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations at a minimum of a high school level, demonstrate legible handwriting, and display proficiency in verbal and written communication.
THEREIS A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF RECORD KEEPING INVOLVED IN THIS POSITION.
You must be able to lift at least 40 pounds.
You must be able to remain standing for long periods of time.
You must be able to walk and control leashed dogs(up to 150 pounds) and move and control cats and some exotics.
Exotics include birds, reptiles(snakes, lizards, turtles), rabbits, ferrets, and pocket pets(mice, rats, guinea pigs, and gerbils). This hospital does not treat wolves, wolf hybrids, monkeys, or native wildlife.
Please understand the animals we see are often sick, injured, or upset. They have teeth, claws, and beaks, which they will attempt to use on the person handling them. Although we teach proper restraint techniques, there is always the possibility of a bite or scratch.
This position consists MAINLY OF CLEANING TASKS, much less patient interaction.
You will be expected to clean up feces, urine, vomit, and blood. Some of the patients have fleas, ticks, and worms or other parasites.
Patients must be kept clean and dry and provided with clean bedding, water, and litter pans at all times.
Towels, blankets, and surgical linens must be washed, dried, and neatly stored.
Dishes and pans must be washed, dried, and neatly stored.
There may be patients to bathe, dry, and brush out.
The hospital requires a large amount of cleaning and maintenance.
-the entire hospital is vacuumed and mopped every day Mon-Fri
-sinks, counters, and walls must be kept clean
-bathrooms cleaned
-equipment vacuumed and/or washed daily
-all surfaces dusted
-trash removed
-windows washed
-drains cleaned
-the area where the dogs are walked must be kept free from litter and stool
-porches, walkways, and parking lot swept, hosed off, or shoveled and salted depending on the season
Record keeping involves:
Monitoring the dietary, stool, urinary habits, and weights of patients in-hospital or boarding and accurately documenting same in patient files and on in-patient status forms
Recording all tasks accomplished on maintenance sheets.
Some computer entry tasks.
Legibly maintaining whiteboard accounting of patients.
The kennel attendant is responsible for maintaining all patients' personal belongings and must make sure these go home with patients at discharge.
Expect that you may be involved in patient euthanasia at some level.
