ORVocational Instructor 1 (Provisional):I. four years of appropriate trade experience and a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma issued by a recognized state educational authority;Or II. an associate's degree in a related trade area and two years of appropriate trade experience;Or III. a bachelor's degree in any area and one year of appropriate trade experience.Vocational Instructor 2 (Provisional):I. four years of appropriate trade experience and a minimum of 9 college credits in pedagogy core coursework earned from a New York State Education Department approved program. These must include 3 college credits in each of the following areas: Human Development and Learning; Teaching Students with Disabilities & Special Health-Care Needs; and Curriculum and Instruction. Or II. an associate's degree in a related trade area including or supplemented by 9 college credits of pedagogy core coursework earned from a New York State Education Department approved program. These must include 3 college credits in each of the following areas: Human Development and Learning; Teaching Students with Disabilities & Special Health-Care Needs; and Curriculum and Instruction, and two years of related trade experience; Or III. a bachelor's degree in any area including or supplemented by 9 college credits of pedagogy core coursework earned from a New York State Education Department approved program. These must include 3 college credits in each of the following areas: Human Development and Learning; Teaching Students with Disabilities & Special Health-Care Needs; and Curriculum and Instruction; and one year of related trade experience.Vocational Instructor 3 (Provisional): Initial certification as a teacher of trade subjects in the appropriate specialty as issued by the New York State Education Department.Vocational Instructor 4 (Provisional): Professional certification as a teacher of trade subjects in the appropriate specialty as issued by the New York State Education Department.This position may be designated 55 b/c and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Duties Description Instruct a course in a career and technical education (CTE) specialty that is recognized by New York State Department of Education. Students are juvenile justice-involved youth who reside at Brookwood Secure Center for Youth. Prepare and modify course outlines. Prepare daily and/or weekly lesson plans. Conduct a schedule of instruction that includes demonstration and learning support of topics. Supervise students’ hands-on application of formal instruction. Implement methods for evaluating students’ performance and progress though the course. Support youth in community job exploration and workforce development as they prepare to transition out of OCFS care.Brookwood is OCFS’ only co-educational secure facility. It has programs for male and female youth. Brookwood has the capacity for coursework in: business and distributive education, computer technology, cosmetology/barbering, electrical, HVAC, machine tool operation, plumbing, residential/commercial building and remodeling, and small engine repair. Additional duties will be discussed at interview. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable.
