Black Squirrel Farms collects and processes black walnuts. We are the only 20C licensed facility processing black walnuts in NYS and we are turning a native nut tree crop from a wasted resource into healthy food and useful household products. We manage a regional collection program that allows community members and local tree growers to drop off walnuts at our site. Our black walnut collection program runs from September-November. Our site overlooks beautiful Seneca Lake and is a short drive from both Penn Yan and Geneva. We are currently seeking 2024 part-time walnut harvest support, a completely outdoor job, this fall for a minimum of 12hrs/wk, more if available. The purpose of this role is to help process 2024 walnuts and keep our harvest moving smoothly. This role reports to Emily Reynolds, Operations Manager, and we pride ourselves on our scheduling flexibility. Daily tasks include working with our huller to remove hulls from walnuts, moving hulled walnuts into drying locations, moving dried walnuts into storage locations, and interacting with our program members on an as needed basis. No experience with black walnuts is required, we will teach you everything you need to know. If you love to work outdoors and have an appreciation for trees and under-appreciated crops, this is the job for you!
