The Town of Potter is currently seeking an energetic and detail-oriented applicant to join our team as Town Clerk.

QUALIFIED APPLICANT MUST BE A TOWN OF POTTER RESIDENT.

DUTIES

• Maintains official Town calendar and issues public notification of all official activities and meetings.

• Prepares meeting agendas and packets of related information.

• Administer the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL requests)

• Maintain official records of adopted ordinances, local laws, oaths of office, etc.

• Issues NYS required licenses such as dog licenses, marriage licenses; NYS DEC hunting/fishing licenses;

• Serve as the Clerk to the Town Board, Receiver of Taxes, Registrar of Vital Statistics (death and birth certificates)

• Attends regular and special Council meetings and prepares minutes of meetings.

• Serves as custodian of Council’s official records by planning and directing the maintenance, filing, safekeeping, and computerization of all town documents.

• Responsible for processing accounts payable and accounts receivable, bi-weekly payroll and all federal and state reporting associated.

• Must strictly adhere to confidentiality and ethical practices.

REQUIREMENTS

The Clerk should be familiar with all revenue sources, and the manner of accounting for these revenues.

The Clerk must be knowledgeable of or willing to learn:

• policies, procedures and activities of the Clerk's Office,

• principles and practices of municipal government administration as necessary for the completion of daily responsibilities,

• laws and regulations as they relate to the Town Clerk's office, and

• how to keep abreast of any changes in policy, methods, computer operations, equipment needs, etc.

The Clerk must have the ability to

• monitor multiple accounts for adherence to budget, reconcile and interpret statements, and deliver timely and useful data, and reports,

• assemble information and present in a concise, clear and effective manner,

• use independent judgment and work with little direct supervision when necessary,

• comprehend, interpret and apply regulations, procedures and related information,

• use computers and computer software to achieve results, and

• utilize time management, organizational, human relations and technical skills to meet objectives.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Special Training or Experience: Certified Municipal Clerk is preferred. Additional training or certifications as a Town Clerk recommended.

Additional Job Requirements: Pre-employment background check.

Pay according to experience and qualifications.
