Req Number 0039H5Job DescriptionEvaluates communication disorders, administers therapy and participates in multidisciplinary consultations.Responsibilities Include:

Performs diagnostic evaluations, and speech/language screenings for in-patients and out-patients evidencing communication disorders, using all appropriate test procedures.

Identifies patient and obtains patient history.

Performs all diagnostic tests/habilitative measures as needed, with the appropriate procedures.

Discusses evaluation results and their implications with the patient/patient's family, making proper referrals and recommendations.

Prepares reports of diagnostic findings and recommendations and distributes them appropriately to professional agencies as directed.

Ensures appropriate follow-up action incumbent upon diagnostic findings, with further multidisciplinary and family contact, as required.

Participates in speech/language screening procedures as scheduled within the Department.

Participates in special diagnostic procedures with other disciplines, i.e. radiology, otolaryngology.

Provides therapy in group or individual sessions for persons in-patients and out-patients with speech, language or hearing disorders.

Designs a course of therapy for each patient, following the recommendation of the evaluation.

Writes daily therapy notes, monthly out-patient objective, treatment goal/progress sheets, and prepares formal diagnostic progress and related reports, at least on a quarterly basis.

Maintains liaison with other professionals involved with patient care, particularly in knowing appropriate follow-up management of patients upon discharge from treatment.

Keeps parents, patients and patient families informed of current progress and gives specific recommendations for home practice for appropriate management and execution of therapeutic tasks.

Supervises and directs appointed graduate interns in speech pathology, and assists in their evaluation.

Works with the guides the student in the performance of his/her duties.

Provides direct teaching and supervision of graduate trainee within therapy sessions.

Provides theoretical information or access to information, pertinent to trainee's needs.

Assists the Senior Speech Pathologist/Coordinator in preparing a written evaluation of the student's performance.

Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

Master's degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited college or university.

Currently licensed in Speech Pathology in the State of New York.

Minimum one (1) year of full-time professional clinical practice in Speech Pathology.
