Ithaca fine dining restaurant is looking for applicants to fine tune the balance between daytime planning and dinner service guest relations. Many details go into the day to day; from planning prix fixe dinners and correspondence with Ithaca College and Cornell University to notifying staff of guest allergies and special requests. We are looking for a candidate who has the ability to organize all these details and translate them into an accommodating dinner service every evening.

Hours:

Two weeks of dinner service training with a shift start time of 2pm. Followed by two weeks of administrative training when a permanent shift start time of noon to 1pm will be implemented. Shift end time is 8pm but may vary depending on when dinner service slows down. Full-time schedule, Wednesday through Sunday, around 30-40 hours a week.

Responsibilities:

Light office work in the afternoon including finalizing large party/event reservations and organizing the reservation book. Responsible for menu printing and relaying relevant changes (to menu, reservations and otherwise) at the daily staff meeting. You will assist the office manager with secretarial duties and clerical tasks.

Majority of host duties during dinner service include tending to the reservation software, seating guests and assigning tables. You will assist the executive chef to control the general flow of dinner service.

Qualifications:

Appreciation of a client/customer-focused approach to service; maintaining the utmost professionalism during phone/e-mail communication and face-to-face contact with guests.

Creative thinker and problem-solver who has a desire to work with others to provide the highest level of fine dining service. A positive, entrepreneurial, team-focused approach to work is essential.

Proven administrative skills with specific strength in organization. Proven restaurant host experience.

Position requires demonstrated experience in common software, such as Microsoft Office.

Long-term residence in Ithaca. This position offers a lot of room to grow as the business expands if you have the ability to work flexibly as part of a small team in a fast-paced environment. This will take time and we are hoping to find a candidate with at least a 5 year plan to stay in the Ithaca area.

Willingness to learn. Every restaurant's core logistics are different. If you are willing to learn, we are willing to teach!

Fine dining experience and familiarity with any cuisines food and wine knowledge is a plus. If it turns out that you are familiar with a different cuisine than what we serve, it will still be helpful to have a base knowledge of food and beverage terms.
