Great job opportunity for the right individual(s) to join a team of support professionals, providing 24/7 home and community supports for a man in his own apartment and in the community.
At present, we are looking for one or two people who can work the following time block:
Thursday 5pm through Friday 6pm (perhaps later)(25+ hours). The overnight hours are sleep permitted (but not guaranteed)
can be filled by ONE person (Thursday 5pm-Friday 6pm+) for 25 hours
OR by TWO people: (1) Thursday 5 or 6pm-Friday 8am for 15 hours AND (2) Friday 8am-6pm (or later) for 9+ hours
Also possibility of 1-2 Sundays per month (10am - 10pm), with or without Saturday overnight.
We have had great success with individual staff who have combined consecutive blocks
Job Description
Support an adult who is on the Autism spectrum with Learning Disabilities in his quest to have a real life. He is intelligent, high functioning, funny and engaging. He also can be quite anxious, impulsive, and obsessive/compulsive, which at times can be challenging.
Our team of Support Staff provides 24 hour, round-the-clock, 1:1 support in the community (as he shops and recreates), in and around his apartment (assisting him to cook, clean, manage his money, enjoy his free time), and in all other things that everyone else does as part of their ordinary lives. Staff provide support to help him reduce his anxiety, make socially appropriate choices and participate in valued community activities.
Requirements. To apply for this position, you must:
Believe that all people have the right to live a quality life in their community, with appropriate supports, as needed
Have some college and/or work related experience, BA preferred
Have the personality that can handle the stresses that arise while supporting a person on the autism spectrum in the community
Own a car and be willing to use it for transportation (mileage will be reimbursed)
Have a valid NYS driver's license with a clean driving record; no criminal record
Have a cell phone with a texting plan
The supports to this individual are funded by the NY State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) as part of their initiative in Self-Direction. Within our team, the contributions of each staff person
is valued, and quality 1:1 training and team support are provided on an ongoing
basis.
Salary: VERY COMPETITIVE, dependent on experience and education; Hours past 40 hrs/wk paid at overtime; Medical Benefits and opportunity to participate in a retirement plan available for individuals working more than 30 hours.
