Job Description

The Office of Ambulatory Care and Population Health at NYC Health + Hospitals has a broad portfolio encompassing ambulatory care transformation, development of innovative care models, and population health analytics. The Data Visualization Specialist will be providing support to ambulatory operations and referral-related initiatives, including eConsult, an electronic referral consult solution aiming to improve access to ambulatory specialty expertise. We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative team member to collaborate on impactful ways to share and communicate data to drive quality improvement and better health outcomes for our patients, and further the mission of NYC Health + Hospitals.

General tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and optimize intuitive and interactive data visualizations and dashboards, using large, complex clinical data to provide insights to program manager, leadership, and administrative/clinical users.
  • Interpret and distill quantitative and qualitative EHR-based data into compelling stories for diverse audiences
  • Design, run and disseminate a variety of reports and analytical tools; adapting analytical products and solutions to end user requests as program needs evolve
  • Communicate with ambulatory teams, IT, other central office departments, and end users at local sites to iterate on visual collateral; seek out and standardize best practices for interpreting and applying actionable data visualizations
  • Serve as the core resource for the program on building capacity for incorporating dashboards and data visualizations into performance and quality improvement strategies, with particular emphasis on identifying and operationalizing ways to use data to drive process improvements. This will include ad-hoc analyses to explore areas of interest, and partnering with other members of the team to create tools and resources for facilities.
  • Continually identify suitable opportunities for automation, improved efficiencies and streamlined processes
  • Work closely with the Population Health Data Core team, participating in broader healthcare analytics projects and sharing expertise in pursuit of the team's goals.
  • Other related duties as directed


Minimum Qualifications

1. A Masters degree or advanced clinical degree from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of experience gathering and documenting business, clinical, and/or functional requirements using interviews, document analysis, workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, scenarios, business analysis, task and workflow analysis or related in a clinical, allied health, non-allied health, behavioral health, information technology, information services, business, analytics or related area; or, one (1) year of experience in a relevant clinical and/or healthcare administration role/function; or

2. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of experience as described above; or

3. A satisfactory combination of education, training, and experience.

4. Specialty certification(s) issued by a national commercially available program, state, professional society, academic or technical institution in an area(s) listed above, may be credited on a month-to-month basis toward the required work experience for a total of one (1) year.

Department Preferences

EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:
  • Master's in epidemiology, biostatistics, or related field preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree with a focus on public health, health care, pre-med, mathematics or related field.

KNOWLEDGEABLE IN :
  • Experience with or exposure to data visualization software (e.g. Tableau)
  • Experience with or exposure to data analysis in SQL, Microsoft Excel and SAS software.
  • Experience analyzing EHR-derived data is a priority.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
  • 2-4 years' related experience

PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • Substantial experience with Tableau, SQL and Excel, preferably in a healthcare context
  • Demonstrate initiative, sound judgement and flexibility; possess effective time management and organizational skills; and be able to work under deadlines and on multiple projects simultaneously.
