The Product Manager, Data & Application Platforms, is responsible for leading development of new data products, redesign, and maintenance of existing products. These products include client facing SaaS platforms and internal products that support these products.

You will drive product development and play a key role in designing the product architecture ensuring that design meets strategic and technical objectives. You will work closely with business managers, marketing managers, UI/UX designers, and software developers to deliver these goals.

You understand data and database technologies and can comfortably converse with engineers and liaison with business stakeholders. The role involves gathering requirements from multiple business stakeholders, prioritizing work, presenting priorities in sprint plans, scheduling work by working closely with project managers, and demonstrating work completed to a large audience.

An important aspect of this role is bringing thought leadership to product development, going beyond planning and executing work.
This position reports to the VP of Product Management.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Business Advisor:
  • Sets long-term vision and strategy for product, in partnership with stakeholders. Maps metrics and tactics against each strategy
  • Understands key priorities for the company and maps product strategy to company goals/objectives
  • Identifies opportunities in the market and “quick wins” that drive business impact
  • Generate insights from data, industry trends, and customer feedback to inform decisions on product prioritization and what goes on the roadmap
  • Looks at the bigger picture (i.e. is what we’re doing the best for the customer, ALM, and the product itself?)
  • Ask the question, “Should we be doing this?”
  • UX mindset
  • Understands users’ needs and creates experiences that solve those needs
  • Collaborates with UX team and development to research and envision solutions

Customer Advocate:
  • Learns what customers are saying about the product, both through direct feedback and indirect feedback from sales, customer service, etc.
  • Uses feedback to recommend solutions to problems identified by customers

Execution Engine:
  • Shrewd in prioritizing, balancing the needs of customers, stakeholders, other competing priorities,
  • Executes new development work with the partnership of marketing, sales, development, editorial, project management, customer service, etc.
  • Launches new products
  • Works with development to execute fixes for bugs that critically impact the product’s performance
  • Has worked in an Agile software development environment

Liaison:
  • Bridges marketing, sales, development, editorial, project management, customer service, etc. to manage the lifecycle of products
  • Trains stakeholders to come to the product team with problems, not solutions. Once the problem is defined, work with development to determine the best solution.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Five to seven years of work experience as a product manager for SaaS products
  • At least five years of experience working in cross-functional teams and collaborating with business stakeholders in support of a multi-departmental data management and analytics initiatives
  • Must be comfortable with data and complex data relationships with multiple products and business rules
  • Experienced in working with technical and business teams
  • A bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to relate technical decisions and recommendations to business needs
  • Good understanding of relational databases and data relationships
  • Familiarity with content management technologies is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Is a confident, energetic self-starter, with strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic business environment
  • Highly creative and collaborative. The ability to collaborate with both the business and technology teams to define the business problem, refine the requirements, and design and develop deliverables accordingly
