Position SummaryThis position works in Assay Development and Screening in the Small Molecule discovery biology team. Under supervision, this role performs primary biochemical and cell-based screening assays to identify therapeutic small molecule candidates at the Tri-Institutional Therapeutics Discovery Institute (Tri-ITDI).Job ResponsibilitiesPerforms routine mammalian cell culture maintenance activities.

Performs routine molecular biology laboratory procedures, such as PCR, protein and DNA electrophoresis, cloning and DNA preparation, and RT-PCR.

Performs routine biochemical assays including: SDS-PAGE , western blots, ELISA, AlphaScreen, TR-FRET, etc.

Performs staining and microscopic imaging analyses.

Prepares and maintains detailed records, logs and summary reports of all procedures and results including graphs, scientific calculations, and statistical analysis charting. Keeps a detailed and well organized laboratory notebook.

Analyzes data and reports results to the project team.

Participates in planning and carrying out experiments. Assists in preparing research protocols.

Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment and/or reagents. May order supplies/equipment/reagents as authorized or ensure that needs are escalated appropriately. Receives supply orders and confirms accuracy of delivery. May assist with cost control.

Ensures a clean working area and is responsible for washing and storing glassware.

Ensures that facilities and equipment are in optimal and proper working condition. Coordinates preventative maintenance and repairs as needed. May perform minor repairs if qualified and as needed.

Ensures that safe laboratory practices are followed, including the use and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.

EducationBachelor's Degree

ExperienceA minimum of 5 year experience of carrying out experiments in a biochemistry, molecular biology or cell biology laboratory.Master’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, or related field with 5 years of experience (or) Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, or related field with 8 years of experience.Hands-on knowledge of basic biochemical and molecular cell biology techniques, including Western Blot, ELISA, PCR.Experience with sterile tissue culture techniques.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesStrong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate technical information, both written and orally, with colleagues and collaborators.

Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously to deliver results in rapid timeframes.
