Reporting to the Active Directory Manager in the Identity and Access Management (IAM) group, the Sr. Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and ongoing support of our centralized Enterprise Active Directory environment. This technology supports authentication and authorization for a wide range of Windows systems and applications utilized across the University.
Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain the University-wide Active Directory environment (on-prem and AzureAD with 100K+ Users)
  • Perform common responsibilities such as domain controller promotion and demotion, organizational unit setup and delegation of administration, group policy creation and modification, administration of AD sites, subnets and site links, and schema changes.
  • Collaborate with others to ensure seamless AD integration of various applications and systems across the University.
  • Analyze data and identify trends to facilitate root cause analysis and identify opportunities for service improvement.
  • Ensure the security and compliance of the Active Directory environment.
  • Manage the backup and recovery solution for Active Directory.
  • Assess and recommend maintenance and/or hardware/software solutions for system reliability and effectiveness.
  • Fields service tickets regarding availability, performance, and functionality problems of Active Directory.
  • Performs diagnosis and resolution of moderately complex issues related to Active Directory.
  • Assists customer organizations with planning and implementing complex configurations
  • Identifies and documents infrastructure configuration requirements related to AD
  • Maintains good relationships with peer technical groups and other support groups
  • Represent IAM organization on large-scale technology projects implemented outside IAM
  • Work with the broader IT security, risk, and compliance teams to interpret policies and standards, regulatory requirements and ensure standards are properly across all AD environments
  • Available for on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend work.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required.
  • Minimum 4-6 years related experience.
  • Minimum 4-5 years Windows Systems Administration experience.
  • Proven experience effectively communicating technical issues/challenges to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Minimum 3-4 years of Active Directory technical experience that includes the operational support and implementation of large-scale, enterprise-level solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience working with Active Directory, Azure AD, ADFS.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with Windows Server systems design, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Understands basic networking concepts (DNS, Load Balancing, Wireless, VPNs, VLANs, Subnets, Firewalls).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking skills is a must.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated excellence in a variety of competencies including teamwork/collaboration, analytical thinking, communication, influencing skills, and technical expertise.
  • Ability to work with changing priorities and multiple projects.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Weekend and off-hour work may be necessary on occasion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 4+ years managing an enterprise-level Active Directory environment with 50K+ users.
  • Strong knowledge and experience working with Microsoft ESAE Active Directory environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of building and maintaining an internal Microsoft PKI environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Quest Migration Manager and large scale AD migrations.
  • Strong knowledge of Malwarebytes, Crowdstrike, SCOM, WSUS, SCCM, ADFS.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with PowerShell.
  • Strong knowledge of VMWare ESX and vCenter.
  • Basic working knowledge of UNIX/LINUX Operating Systems.
  • Basic working knowledge of MIT Kerberos.
