The Law Office of Philippe J. Gerschel is a dynamic and growing law firm specializing in special education law in New York City. Our dedicated team is committed to advocating for the rights of students with disabilities and ensuring they receive the education and support they deserve as dictated by Federal and New York state law.

Position Overview:

We seek a highly motivated, 100% remote, compassionate case manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be crucial in supporting students with special education needs and their families by navigating the complex legal landscape of obtaining special education services in New York City.

Responsibilities:

Case Management: Manage a large caseload of students with special education needs, ensuring effective coordination and communication with their parents, our legal team, and special education service providers. Identify the litigation objectives and chart a path to get there.

Calendar Review: Check your cases in our internal hearing prep application and have clear directives for our attorneys for all their appearances.

Documentation: Prepare and maintain accurate and comprehensive case files, including internal legal documents, correspondence, and relevant records.

Collaboration: Work closely with our attorneys, NYC DOE staff, educational professionals, and other stakeholders to develop and implement effective strategies for each case.

Administrative Hearing Preparation: Prepare for the merits hearing (aka Due Process Hearing) by drafting the affidavits for attorney review and preparing the witnesses.

Client Education & Communication: Empower clients by providing information on their rights, options, and the unique education process. Ensure parents know what is happening with their children’s cases at all process stages.

Implementation: Take affirmative steps to Implement every pendency or FOFD decision for your cases.

Resolution processing: Review the resolutions as we receive them and decide whether they must/can/should not be accepted. If we accept the resolution make sure that the offer we got is the best we can get.

Legal Research: Stay abreast of relevant special education laws, regulations, and policies to guide clients and the legal team.

Qualifications:

This a 100% remote role, but you must be able to work standard EST hours.

Experience in special education advocacy or related fields is desired.

Basic understanding of federal and state laws governing special education.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to manage multiple cases concurrently with attention to detail. Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.

Advocacy or legal experience within the New York City educational system is desired.
