We are seeking a thorough individual with a Masters degree in library/archival science, to organize the Sea-Land Papers from the Sea-Land Archives held by the American Merchant Marine Museum.
JOB DUTIES
Create folder-level finding aid to professional archival standards (i.e., finding aid will list items in each folder)
Set aside items of which there are more than three (3) copies
Organize over-size items to professional archival standards
Organize graphics, images, plans, and photos to professional archival standards
Placement of documents in acid-free folders and in archival/Hollinger boxes provided by Museum
Organize archival boxes on shelves provided by Museum

The desired end product is an electronic file in MS Word and/or Excel format that goes down to the folder level that also records the physical location of the archival material, as well as three (3) bound copies of the finding aid.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Follow NARA standard of organization and professional practice
Demonstrated ability to create effective finding aids
Demonstrated ability to organize historical documents, with a strong preference for expertise in maritime- related archives
Ability to lift thirty (30) pounds
Strong verbal and written communication skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Masters degree in library/archival science
Demonstrated experience in working with maritime-related subject matter
All work to be conducted within the American Merchant Marine Museum.
