Job Description:

On a day-to-day basis, a Systems Engineer will be the Level 1 contact for client end users experiencing issues with their PCs (workstations/laptops; potentially Macs). Engagements are initiated via phone or email and typically require at least one phone conversation to kick off work on the issue. Resolutions are expected in a timely fashion (by both the end user and company).

Project management will entail detailed tracking of timely to-do items for various engagements such as new office space build outs, new domain deployments, and various other types of IT setups. The Systems Engineer will always work with a senior engineer on these projects, but may be tasked to work with limited supervision on certain project segments.

The right candidate will be enterprising and looking to grow their technical knowledge beyond just the desktop environment. There will be plenty of opportunities to develop skills in server environments, network infrastructures, and running projects. The SE will be exposed to some of the latest and greatest technologies; interact with trades that directly impact IT (e.g., carriers, cables plant, electrical, construction, furniture); and will learn to build end-to-end solutions for particular opportunities.

Above the day to day responsibilities, the Systems Engineer will also be in charge of maintaining accurate inventory records for all clients. This includes hardware/software components, network diagrams, IT rack/space layouts, pertinent IP schemas, and necessary administrative credentials.

This is not a job where youre tied to a desk every minute or every day. You will be engaged everyday “ whether with clients, projects, or internal requirements. Be assured, you wont be bored.

Location & Hours:

Systems Engineer would be based out of the office in midtown Manhattan. Standard hours are 8:30AM “ 5:30PM, Monday through Friday. Hours may be adjusted to meet client/project work and coverage. After hours and weekend work will be necessary.

Compensation:

Salary will be commensurate with experience. SE may qualify for bonuses based on personal and company performance. Once eligible, we offers a retirement program, along with health, dental, and vision benefits, among other perks.

Requirements:

2-3 years of experience in PC domain and workgroup support and configurations

Experience with MACs is a plus

Basic server support and configuration

Experience with networks (firewall and switching) is a plus

1-2 years of experience in Managing client projects. The larger the scope and more complex the better

Work with systems on a physical level (e.g., structured cabling, IT room layouts, power requirements, etc.)

Experience with audio/visual and telecom is a plus

Reference-able work experience should include, but not be limited to:

a) Build a basic Active Directory infrastructure

b) Join new PCs to domain or incorporate them into a workgroup

c) Migrate domain profiles

d) Map printers (local and network)

e) Establish remote desktop connections (VPN, RDP, RDS, 3rd-party applications such as Teamviewer

f) Upgrade physical hardware of workstations/laptops

g) Identify and clean virus, malware, spyware, ransonware, among other infections

h) Rebuild PCs (or do system restores) for infected machines that could not be cleaned

i) Provide end user support (onsite & remotely)

j) Provide basic troubleshooting of network devices (firewall, switch, router)

k) Knowledge and proficiency with PSA, RMM, and Documentation tools

l) Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Products, Backup and Recovery software, and Cloud solutions such as Microsoft and Office 365, and VOIP

Basic knowledge of the physical infrastructure required to attach a PC to a network (i.e., structured cabling, patch cords, patch panels)

Experience with desktop-level networking and familiarity with using tools such as ping, trace route, ipconfig, nslookup, netstat, nbtstat, etc. to troubleshoot network-related issues.

Creative thinking to track down potential causes of PC issues and resolutions

Ability to ask the right questions, take appropriate steps to identify a cause, seek assistance to develop a solution (if necessary), and confidence to execute the solution

Professional and clear communication skills (in person, phone, & email)

Capacity to work without heavy supervision, but seek assistance when necessary

Professional and appropriate presentation

Ability to physically unpack and rack required IT equipment (e.g., servers, firewalls, switches, workstations, UPSs)
