The Maintenance Manager plans, performs and oversees general repairs, upkeep, maintenance and cleaning of the school’s entire physical plant, consisting of three buildings on two campuses in Shelburne, Vermont. They strive to provide LCWS students and staff with a safe, comfortable, clean and efficient place to learn and work. The Maintenance Manager demonstrates a high standard of excellence in the upkeep and repair of all school facilities, including buildings, interiors, exteriors, utilities, grounds, athletic fields, playgrounds and all related equipment.

Work is performed in a supportive, cooperative work environment in close proximity to children aged two to eighteen. Requires daily driving between the two Shelburne campuses. Occasional nights and weekends are required to attend special events and meetings and support volunteer “Work Days.”

The Maintenance Manager may be called in at other times to deal with school emergencies. The job requires significant physical effort, including repetitive motion, lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, walking, climbing, crawling, stooping, bending and kneeling. The job may require periodic work outdoors in extreme heat or cold. The job involves exposure to dust, paints and cleaning products. It may require working occasionally from heights (on ladders and roofs) and in confined spaces. Standard protective equipment must be worn for some activities.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

– High school graduation or GED.

– Ability to read, write and perform mathematics (algebra and geometry) at a level commensurate with essential job duties.

-Ability to maintain an electronic database of spreadsheets.

– Associate’s degree in a related field; formal post-secondary vocational training in a building trades field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

– Three to five years progressive experience in the building trades or building maintenance field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

– Prior experience in a similar position preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

– Strong knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electricity, HVAC systems, machines, hand tools, power tools and cleaning equipment.

– Familiarity with environmentally safe cleaning products and ecological pest control techniques.

– Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

– Possess a valid Vermont driver’s license.

– Strong interpersonal communication skills.
