Our professionals and technicians are certified and provide expertise in support of the overall BNL mission by use of field deployed Facility Support personnel, an accredited Personnel Monitoring service, a fully functional Instrumentation & Calibration facility, expertise in Radiological Engineering and the handling of Isotopes and Special Nuclear Materials.Position DescriptionEssential Duties and Responsibilities: (bulleted) Under general supervision, performs a variety of non-routine technical functions typically involved with the fabrication, installation, operation, maintenance, and testing of equipment or facilities in connection with technical investigations.

Follows complex but standard procedures in performing assigned duties.

Performance of these duties requires a general knowledge of practical principles in one or more disciplines such as mechanics, electronics, metallurgy, health physics, or chemistry.

Position Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (bulleted)

This position requires an associate degree in a technical field (physics or electronics preferred) or equivalent relevant experience, or technical institute graduate with relevant field work experience.

Ability to read an electronic schematic.

Ability to use common hand tools

Wiring and soldering skills.

Electronic component parts replacement skills.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (bulleted)

Ability to troubleshoot simple and complex electronics systems.

Ability to troubleshoot electronics and electro-mechanical sub-assemblies to the component level.

Understanding of air flow, pressure, and vacuum systems.

Electronic and electro-mechanical calibration experience.

Radiation detector theory.

Other information:

Driver’s license requiredPerform work within areas controlled for radiological purposes.

Moderate lifting (15-30 lbs.)

Heavy lifting (>30 lbs.)
