The Class C Mechanic is an entry level maintenance position. The successful bidder must participate in and complete a 4 year NYS approved apprentice program as a millwright, pipe fitter, welder or other skilled trade. The Class C mechanic must possess the skills, knowledge and ability to perform the following;
1. Will perform installation and maintenance work as part of team of skilled trade workers.
2. Will move machinery, equipment and rolls, using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
3. Will transport various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.
4. Will perform confined space monitoring to assist in the inspection or repair of equipment.
5. Will assist in dismantling machines, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other tools and equipment.
6. Will perform maintenance on rail tracks and facility grounds and will complete other facility maintenance related work orders.
As part of the Class C Mechanics training and development, the Class C Mechanic will work under the direction of a skilled tradesman and may assist in performing all tasks.
