The Town of Weaverville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Finance Specialist. This employee will be responsible for a wide variety of Accounting and Financial tasks, requiring professional knowledge of applicable principles and practices.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Posts customer payments by recording cash, checks, and credit card transactions daily. Monitors bank and online payment receipts. Prepares daily bank deposit. Responsible for monthly bank draft of customer payments. Prepares late notices for past-due accounts.

Performs bi-weekly payroll processing. Enters, updates, and maintains payroll database system including insurance, benefits, annual leave, and tax related deductions. Compiles financial, tax, payroll and retirement reports for both internal and external purposes.

Assists the public with a variety of town services and information. Answers telephone as needed. Helps customers with utility issues. Creates work orders as needed. Verifies discrepancies and helps resolve customer billing issues.

Fully cross-trained in Accounts Payable, Purchase Orders, Utility Billing, and other financial duties. Fills in for other absent staff members.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Considerable knowledge of accounting, payroll, cash collections, and billing principles and practices, laws and regulations, and fiscal reporting.

Ability to perform general accounting processes with appropriate speed and accuracy.

Excellent computer skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel is necessary. Familiarity with accounting software programs.

Skill in public contact, customer service, and collaborative conflict resolution.

Excellent written and verbal skills.

Education & Experience Required:

Considerable experience in Accounting, Payroll, Cash Receipts, and Billing, preferably in a municipal or county finance office.

Bachelors degree, preferably in accounting, finance, business, or public administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
