Principal Responsibilities:

Full-time, 40hrs/week, hourly $14-$16 depending on experience and credentials

Start Date: August 17, 2020

Principal Responsibilities of Classroom positions:

Instruction

-Plan and execute developmentally appropriate learning experiences based upon on-going evaluation of the group's overall needs and the individual needs of each child

-Tailor classroom activities to developmental continuum of children

-Establish daily and weekly schedules for children to be followed by the entire classroom teaching team

-Foster strong classroom community by helping children develop empathy and conflict resolution skills

-Implement a holistic approach to child-learning based on an Emergent Inquiry model, effective pedagogy, and current research in child learning and development

Management of Learning Environment

-Engage in positive, developmentally appropriate interactions with children while setting appropriate limits, providing active listening, problem solving and positive redirection

-Develop and display classroom activities that promote the ideals and goals expressed in the Shalom Children's Center philosophy and mission

-Design and maintain the classroom space to provide safe and engaging learning opportunities that encourage children's participation and comply with ECERS/ITERS requirements

-Provide constant supervision of children, and take care of their welfare, health and safely, spending a minimum of 5-7 contact hours per day with the children

-Ensure compliance with all current NC and DCD guidelines within the classroom and outdoors

-Build a culture of inquiry and collaborative learning

Planning and Assessment

-Observe and document child thinking and behavior in a way that amplifies the voice of the child

-Engage in reflective practice to plan and scaffold relevant and meaningful experiences for the child based on the child's interests and developmental needs

-Maintain anecdotal notes on each child and provide parents with opportunities to meet in parent-teacher conferences and on an as needed basis

-Develop relationships with and serve as main point of contact for parents and guardians, providing weekly updates regarding their children's progress and activities, as well as directing them to appropriate resources as needed

Professional Growth & Responsibility

-Participate in JCC all staff meetings, Shalom faculty meetings, POD meetings, and supervisions with ECE Director, and set up times to provide supervision to teacher and teacher aides throughout the year

-Attend any required in-service trainings on an annual basis. All lead teachers are required to participate in 20 professional development hours per school year

-Demonstrate growth mindset and openness to change, evolution, and enhancement of their practice as individual practitioners and together as a school

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications:

Education:

-BA or higher in Early Childhood preferred, B-K license a plus

-Minimum educational requirement is AA plus 22 Early Childhood Education Semester Hours including NCECC (North Carolina Early Childhood Credential)

Experience/Skills:

-Minimum of 3 years experience teaching in a preschool environment required.

-Knowledge of North Carolina licensing laws and regulations, as well as ITERS/ECERS, and proven ability to maintain compliance with these in the classroom.

-Excellent communication skills.

-Experience implementing child-centered practices and Reggio Emilia approaches to life-long learning and study
