Come join the fun at Asheville Community Movement Movers and Shakers Summer Camp, voted one of the best Summer Day Camps in WNC! We are a gymnastics facility but our camps offer a wide range of activities for children including archery, gardening, art, a variety of sports, group games, music, etc.

Positions available: Lead Counselors, Counselors, Substitutes, Support staff

Hours: Various shifts between 7:45AM and 6PM M-F. Most staff will work 8:30AM-3:15PM but some earlier start and later end times will be available. We also have some positions that will be afternoon hours 2:45-6PM.

Camp weeks: June 10-Aug 23. Staff are expected to be able to work most of the weeks. Staff will need to attend training prior to June 10 and Lead Counselors have an option to start earlier to help with Camp planning and preparation.

What we look for: Energetic, compassionate, hard-working, positive, upbeat, and reliable people who love working with children and also have skills and expertise such as musical, athletic, outdoor adventure, dancing, yoga, gardening etc.

Counselor responsibilities: Lead group activities, provide constant and focused supervision of campers to prevent injuries and ensure a safe environment for all campers, contribute to general organization and cleaning up of the camp area, make all campers feel welcome and secure, create an environment that is positive and joyful, and actively seek ways to build a child's confidence in themselves and others. This is an active job requiring a lot of walking and being on one's feet.

Lead Counselor responsibilities: Same as Counselor but will also provide leadership, help with planning and preparation for daily activities, and assist the Camp Director in daily operations and camp improvements.

Counselor Requirements: Experience working with children, ability to lead and manage a large group of kids, ability to be active and on one's feet must of the day, and an engaging, welcoming, upbeat personality. Experience working in a summer camp environment and first aid certification preferred.

Lead Counselor requirements: Same as Counselor but must have experience as a summer camp counselor or teaching experience or certification.

Support staff: Help with set up and clean up of activities, facilitate on-campus communication between staff members during the camp day, work with Camp Director to prepare materials and supplies for activities, keep track of inventory, put away supplies, prepare snack, assist camp counselors in activities as needed, provide basic first aid as needed, etc.

Support staff requirements: Ability to spend most of the day on one's feet walking and engaging in a variety of activity throughout the day. Most be able to work well with kids and adults. The ideal support staff takes direction well from the Camp Director, but also takes initiative and works well independently once they know what needs to be done. This position is an entry level position and does not require any extensive experience - just a positive, friendly attitude and a commitment to getting the work done.
