General Manager

High Five Coffee is a people-centric, quality-driven coffee company guided by the

notion that anyone who walks through our doors deserves delicious coffee and

remarkable service. Furthermore, we believe that positive and thoughtful social

engagement is inherent to the culture we embody and communicate throughout

our community. The origin of High Five began in 2007 and has grown into 3

locations in the Asheville, NC area and is looking for a General Manager to oversee

company-wide operations and staffing.

Each High Five location has its own unique placement in the community, yet also

creates a cohesive experience through the coffees and service provided. We partner

with Counter Culture Coffee to facilitate an extensive barista training regimen and

consistent yet excitingly seasonal coffee program.

The General Manager for High Five Coffee exists as an overall facilitator for staffing

and operational needs, as well as a Human Resources figure for the company. This

person will be directly supportive to shop managers, a communication liaison

between ownership and company-wide staffing, and an accessible resource to the

entire team of High Five Coffee. This person will be the go-to assist in helping the

management team resolve any staffing issues, and will continually work to facilitate

a positive, collaborative and enjoyable workplace for everyone. Often the job is to

synthesize various inputs and interests in order to resolve an issue or enact a

change most appropriately and efficiently for High Five and its team. Furthermore,

the position requires a strong understanding of the intricacies of the coffee industry

and the fundamentals of brewing and extraction to accompany an advanced level

of specialty coffee service and employee training. This is a full time, 40-45 hrs weekly

position and requires a 2 year commitment.

Responsibilities include:

● Support and HR lead for the management team regarding staff training,

advancements, promotions, issues and general tenure.

● Weekly “On Bar” shifts in all locations.

● Lead and coordinate working interviews and onboarding for location specific barista

hiring.

● Facilitate seasonal menu changes and new menu offerings to fit into effective sales

strategy of coffee and food programs.

● Coordinate bi-annual staffing events and team building opportunities.

● Coordinate with shop leads for company-wide inventory needs and help establish

appropriate PAR levels for ordering minimums and collective needs.

● Establish back stock and PAR levels to ensure full selection of High Five Coffee

branded merchandise.

● Liaison for equipment service calls and maintenance for all locations.

● General on call problem solver for technical or operational issues that may arise.

● Collaborate closely with ownership to address sales goals and identify challenges to

projected goals.

Qualifications:

● 3+ years in specialty coffee.

● 5+ years management experience.

● 3+ years upper level management experience.

● Effective and compassionate communicator.

● Ability to view issues and problems with positivity and solution oriented approach.

● Energized by people and finds meaning and enjoyment out of hospitality.

● Leads with both curiosity and purpose.

● Actively maintains a standard of delightful and welcoming experiences through

customer service and interactions.

Compensation:

● 45K - 48K starting salary (+tips), based on experience.

● 1k raise with successful 6 month evaluation.

● 5% annual raise.

● Performance / Tenure based annual bonus.

● PTO, calculated each 6 months of employment.

● Health Insurance / Urgent Care visit reimbursement (after 90 days).

● 3% retirement account match (after 6 months).
