The employee in this position is supervised directly by the Plant Supervisor and is supervised indirectly by the Branch Manager. Responsible for safety and the operation and facilitation of the entire plant process. This role is varied, must be able to perform their many functions in addition to all non-essential functions which keeps the plant operating on a consistent and safe basis. This position requires distinct concentration and workable knowledge in many areas in order to protect the safety of all employees and assure production is maintained at the proper levels at all times.

Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for the smooth and effective operation of the plant. The following functions account for the largest percentage of this employee’s time and responsibility to the company:

Start the operation of the plant.

Check production tank gauge(s) and document reading

Check the equipment and boiler and add fuel when necessary.

Complete a “walk-around” to check on tanks and valves.

Move product as required within the plant to facilitate production.

Collect, test and record samples from arriving raw stock.

Tabulate daily inventory, document and forward to the accounting specialist.

Check power boxes.

Clean filters at various points in plant as required and clean nozzle on boiler.

Clean process equipment as assigned

Mow yard and clean plant area.

Clean creek box and open and close pond.

Grease pumps and clean heater.

Occasionally assist collection drivers and tanker drivers loading and unloading.

Assist in maintenance of various plant equipment.

Adds chemicals to water tanks.

The employee who serves as the Plant Operator also completes various tasks which are marginal or incidental to the completion of the Essential functions previously listed. Some of the marginal or incidental functions pertinent to this position include but are not limited to:

Skills, Experience, and/or Education Required:

Good communication skills, oral, and written

Mechanical aptitude required

High school diploma or equivalent required and two years’ experience in related position

Ability to work flexible hours and/or shifts

Ability to climb stairs and ladders

Ability to be fitted for and work wearing full face respirator

Ability to lift and carry 50lbs.

Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, dealing with high levels of noise, hot liquids and chemicals, and a visually demanding environment

Ability to stand for long periods of time
