Planate Management Group is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, USA with a technical support center in the Philippines that provides program management and facilities engineering services worldwide. Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies.

The Junior Civil/ Structural Engineer will be responsible for providing technical and programmatic assistance to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Seismic Corrections Program Management Office (PMO) in Washington, DC.

This position has been awarded to Planate Management Group. Contract is one base year plus four option years.

Key responsibilities:

Examine candidate project submissions considered for seismic corrections to ensure they meet required legislative qualification criteria of the Seismic Corrections PMO, and make recommendations to the VA PMO Seismic Engineer for project submission approvals and denials

Review project design drawings and verify that the work indicated in those drawings supports seismic deficiencies. Make recommendations to VA PMO Seismic Engineer if projects include non-seismic deficiency work items

Maintain and update the VAs seismic inventory data that is used to assess and prioritize seismic risk of VAs facility inventory

Maintain and update the Seismic Corrections Programs operating plan for execution of Planning, Design, and Construction of Projects

Maintain a list of projects and their status: both schedule and budget

Notify VA Program Offices of schedule slips and budget over runs during execution

Monitor contract award status to Design, Construction, and support contracts of these Seismic Projects

Support preparation of briefings and policy guidance documentation. Briefings will be to various VA and external stakeholders

Coordinate with VA Project Delivery Teams and VA administration staff to ensure PMOs project data accuracy

Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

Degree in civil or structural engineering, with a focus on structures, essential

Must understand lateral building forces including seismic and wind forces, stress and load calculations, soil capacities criteria, structural design standards, and standard details for structures

Minimum two years experience in the same capacity

Able to perform tasks in a team environment

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suites

Proficient in English both written and oral.
