Our family is seeking a tutor for our two boys in HS. Our guys are bright, curious and in mostly honors and AP classes. Our goal is not to provide tutoring that will help them get better grades, or for them to spend their time with rote memorization, but rather to experience some truly engaging learning from an instructor with passion and evidence of expertise in their field. We are lucky to be in an amazing private school. But the Zoom learning is not the way our kids learn best and they are missing some of the connections with their exceptional teachers.
Be prepared for students who will ask questions, require facts, and have strong opinions based on knowledge and curiosity. Our kids are well read and they truly love learning. They could be described as contrarians. They will respectfully challenge positions and ask for facts. Both boys are experienced in debate. The right tutor must be respectful of young people who are critical thinkers and enjoy lively debate. They are athletes, outdoorsmen and rock musicians
These students, like most studentstoday are yearning for engagement. We know that Covid is real and that teens can catch and spread the disease. Safety is our highest priority. Tutoring would take place in an outdoor covered gazebo in our North Raleigh home. Furniture and tables will be sanitizedbefore and after each visit. Students and parents will wearmasks, practice good hand hygiene and practice safe social distancing for your protection. We will follow safety protocolsin our personal lives as to not expose ourselves or others to unnecessaryrisk. We expect that you do the same. Dad is an MD (he doesn't treat Covid patients) and we will follow the same safety guidelines used in his office. We will all be tested for Covid regularly and check temps and check for symptoms each day.
Our tutor should be very experienced, organized, well preparedand punctual. We realize that some of the best learning may not always stick to a strict lesson plan. But we, as parents wouldlike to view lesson plans and curriculum. Our expectationis that a tutor would bring to us something unique and special that is not found in most classrooms.
Because you will be in our home and around our kids, we will be conducting thorough background checks, checking references, and asking tutor(s) to consent to drug testing. Parents will be onsite for all tutoring sessions.
