Durham Farmers' Market Manager (Durham)

Vacancy expired!

The Durham Farmers’ Market is seeking a full-time Market Manager.

Overall, the Market Manager will manage and conduct the day-to-day DFM operations; supervise market staff/volunteers; communicate with the farmers and artisans; promote the market to customers; and provide customers with an excellent market shopping experience. This is a dynamic, multi-faceted position at the intersection of food, farming and community.

We are Durham’s first farmers’ market, operating continuously since 1999 in downtown Durham. Our membership includes over 65 local farmers, artisans and crafters who create and grow within 75 miles of the market. We are a popular urban farmers’ market in the heart of downtown Durham. The market is open Saturdays year-round and Wednesdays seasonally at Durham Central Park pavilion.

With the Covid-19 pandemic we have some new challenges to continue operations in an ever-changing world. The Market Manager will interface with city officials weekly as the situation evolves, and the responsibilities of this position will be required to evolve to respond to changing market conditions. Any and all applicants are encouraged to keep this in mind in connection to their desire to work with the DFM this season.

The market is seeking a highly motivated individual with entrepreneurial skills and an interest in supporting the local food movement. Ideal candidates will be hard working self-starters who can work independently, communicate well to different audiences, troubleshoot with calm confidence, and embody the ideals of the Market to support local farmers and artisans of Durham.

The Market Manager is a year-round salaried position based on an average 40 hours/week. $30-35K annual salary, based on experience. We offer paid time off and flexible work schedule outside the mandatory Market attendance. To apply please send a cover letter, résumé, and list of three references. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled. No phone calls, & no in person visits.
