Garland is hiring an experienced cook to join our culinary team.

We are a downtown Raleigh restaurant with a regional and national profile. Owner and Chef Cheetie Kumar is a James Beard finalist for Best Chef Southeast. Her small, professional team is dedicated to using local ingredients, exploring bold but balanced flavors and contributing to a respectful and happy environment.

Qualifications:

· A minimum of 2 years experience of professional line cooking in an ingredient driven restaurant

· A positive attitude and ability to communicate clearly with co-workers and managers

· Be punctual, organized, clean, professional, and efficient without compromising quality.

· Have proficient knife skills and basic culinary skills, know how to use relevant kitchen equipment, and be skilled at time management without sacrificing quality.

· Be able to be on your feet for 8-9 hours, reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 40 pounds.

· Understand and adhere to safe food handling practices.

Responsibilities:

· Be able to take direction- we use techniques and spices most cooks are not familiar with. Bring an open mind, observation skills and an applied desire to learn!

· Prep, stock, maintain and track mise-en-place for your station and rotate all products properly.

· Read tickets and cook food to order while coordinating and communicating with others on the line for smooth, efficient and organized service.

· Follow recipes, protocol and procedures of our kitchen

· Maintain a clean and sanitary work-station area during and after service.

· Be consistent, neat and detail oriented in seasoning, plating and garnishing.

· Be willing and able to taste each dish prepared during service

· Maintain a consistent high standard of your mise en place and preparations.

· Be engaged and able to communicate and articulate ideas for improvement in a mature, positive way

· Assist in prep during low volume hours

· Follow the opening and closing lists and work as a part of a team to ensure procedures are followed

· Hold yourself accountable for your work

· Be gender and race tolerant, respectful of co-workers and comply with company policies.

Experience in or knowledge of global cuisines is not required but initiative, active curiosity and engagement is key for a rewarding experience. This is an afternoon/evening line cook position. Applicants must have availability Wednesday-Saturdays from 3:00-11:00 p.m. A Tuesday daytime prep shift is available for those interested in evolving within their position.

Tips are pooled and shared with the kitchen; net pay is between $17-21/ hr.
